Anyone else out there a dedicated gym head that is also a nurse. get at me.
Fellow fit male nursing student here.
I lift 5 days a week, plus I do crossfit training 3 days a week and bike 3 days a week.
I work in psych and assisted living as well, so being fit totally helps in taking down a crazy rampaging patient or transferring 200 lbs of dead weight from a wheelchair to the toilet.
Hey guys, I'm doing Starting Strength here myself. I'm what broscience would call skinnyfat. I'm trying to gain some weight and decent strength levels and then move onto a hypertrophy workout or maybe Crossfit. I love squatting and deadlifts. But my bench is horrible I can't seem to get past 145, but I think it's out of inconsistent workouts.
Hey all, I'm a pre-nursing student as well. Currently dealing with an injury I got mid-may while I was out of the country so had to drop my workout volume for now. I usually hit the gym 4x a week, focusing more so on compound movements and general movement patterns. Can't beat a good deadlift or squat to bounce back from a stressful day.
2nd semester nursing student here. I don't "lift" in particular, but I do indoor rock climbing (soon to be outdoor as well once I get my gear) 3-4 times a week. Just recently bought a climbing board so I started working on deadhangs with different climbing grips (mainly 2-finger grips) and "frenchies" pull-ups. Some day I'll be able to do ladders and lockoffs...someday...haha
I am a woman but I've recent gotten into serious lifting and clean eating. I need to eat every 3 hours but working 12 hour shifts in the ICU I think it will be impossible. Does anyone have any tips of how to eat this often when we are sooo busy? HELP.
mmm stash your pockets and eat when theres even a little bit of downtime or when charting. my icu is chill though cause technically we're not supposed to have food out at the various comp stations

Eating q3hours isnt necessary in fact, it's just old bro science. Macro nutrient management is pretty tough working 12s in the ICU, i lost weight pretty quickly transitioning power lifting from school to working in a BICU. Intermittent fasting was pretty effective for me; leaned up about 10lbs now at 160ish from 170 though my lifts and goals have peaked about 95% of my school days just last year-ish.
Other than prepping foods in advance and eating portions of higher protein and good fats, look into making your own soylent (google it, cant paste here for some reason)meal drink and stocking some aside when you cant eat and need calories and macros. You can make your own easily but trouble some, or wait til its commercially available and add supplemental protein. It's a crowd funded project backed by mostly ... efficient geeks (engineers, programers). Pretty much its cost effective tube feeds consisting of whey isolates, essential oils, carbs (maltodextrin/oats) and micronutrients.
I train for power, do 3 days of heavy compounds a week, minor compounds inbetween days if im free. It was my coping mechanism for the dragging school days and ongoing tough shifts presently. Plus I think deadlifting 400lbs has trained my back so a point that I'll be less likely to injure myself turning 250lb patients in odd positions plus assistance (:
