Hi everyone!
I know this would be silly but I would like to hear your opinion about make up Nurses should look good and are well groomed right? But is make up really a necessary part of good grooming? It's because our clinical instructors require us to wear make up
but I do not wear make up. If I do, I'll just get irritated and may not be able to work well. What do you think? :icon_roll
I like to wear a little,,,but look natural. It is good for my skin, because my makeup contains moisture and sunscreen. My mom's skin looks great, and she is 77. My sister doesnt wear it at all. We are all nurses, too. I think sometimes attention to detail makes you care more about yourself. I was in a commercial once for my hospital,,,the makeup people liked less-they actually removed the eyeliner from one girl, cause it didn't make her look like the textbook nurse. Of course, I wore the hats, too when i graduated.
Anyone know why people do that??
When I ask they usually say they don't like the: shape or color of their eyebrows or they don't think they are full enough so they get rid of what they got and give themselves what they want.
Also, a lot of women who grow up in what some would say the mexican sub-culture of "gagsters" and "cholas" (at least in my part of CA that's what they are called) all tend to do this because that's what everyone else does (ie their mom/aunt/older cousin/big sister).
I grew up with/in that culture but thankfully my Mom was too lazy to wear makeup and I never joined in the heavy makeup wearing.
Required to wear makeup that's crazy, what if it were against someone's religion or beliefs. In clinicals we couldn't wear jewelry except for stud ear rings, wedding bands and watches.
I personally wear some makeup to help me look more professional but not dolled up. I don't wear jewelry other than small studs. I think other jewelry gets in the way and is a breeding ground for bacteria.
I couldn't figure out what it was about a coworker of mine that just sort of rubbed me wrong for a few months at my new job, (eventually I got past it and saw her as a complete person) but, it was her full face and hair set-up.
How would the way that someone else looks affect you?
I feel that I look more professional when I have make-up on. It is just a part of getting ready for work. It is pretty tempting but I bet a lot of us could just grab some wrinkled scrubs and throw our hair in a ponytail and be off. For me, that is not my style. I don't go all "Prom Queen" out and neither do I think that I am entering a beauty contest, but I do like to look nice and feel professional.
I don't feel that make-up should be required. It should be a personal choice. And I don't think that anyone has the right to judge another person because they are or are not wearing make-up.
Personally, I like to wear makeup because I feel better when I do. But I don't feel it should be a requirement. While we're on the subject, I wanted to suggest a GREAT foundation for those of you who have a sweating problem: Sephora sells a face and body foundation by the brand Make Up For Ever. It is very lightweight but buildable if you want more coverage and it is sweatproof. (I'm a paramedic and the foundation hasn't budged in the heat and humidity. It was also great on my OR rotation, where I had to wear a mask, and it didn't rub off.) It is expensive but well worth it. It is $38 for about a little more than an ounce. They also sell a professional size (5 oz) from their boutique in NYC (you can order it by phone) for $57 plus shipping. I know that is a LOT of money for a bottle of foundation, but that's equivalent to 5 bottles at less than $12 each.

yikes that's expensive! at that price i would want a trial sample to be sure it would even be suitable for my skin type/match ability etc, but if it were it might be ok, maybe?
If I went to work without make-up...everyone would think I was the patient.
My brother used to complain that he didn't like that I wore make-up...then he saw me without it. Even he asked if was sick. So I will get up extra early every morning for the rest of my life and put on make-up. It's just part of me after all these years.
