Make up...?

Published

Hi everyone! :specs:

I know this would be silly but I would like to hear your opinion about make up :p Nurses should look good and are well groomed right? But is make up really a necessary part of good grooming? It's because our clinical instructors require us to wear make up  but I do not wear make up. If I do, I'll just get irritated and may not be able to work well. What do you think? :icon_roll

Here's one for you... Hubby asked why nurses are of the "large" nature...(cuz I am size: big.... Told him that was because our hearts are xlarge and we need the body to hold them.....

hmmm, my first post. Where to begin ? Having worked in many areas of the field . I have stumbled into these troubled waters. From mandatory nurse caps which are deadly when trapped in a bedside curtain to . Females must wear panty hose if wearing shorts . Low and behold I challenged back that male nurses must as well. Needless to say I won that arguement .I rebelled over females having to cover their tatoos males did not .You have to love fake dragon tatoos on a bare leg with shorts. Or at least respect the intentions of fair play. I do not have time to play with my hair and strap on fake nails that hurt worse then blue blazes. And no I find if I do have a moment of feeling girly girl I am chastised for it. My rational after double shifts back to back . I need to look a little more alive and less dead then I am feeling. Who is to judge what is to much or to little. The name of the game is compassion and caring for my patients and giving above and beyond of what I have to give.If I look worse for the wear and tear, the patients are concerned I am giving to much. Is there such a thing? Do what's in your heart and for what's best for you. Have a wild day and let your hair down.:innerconf

I also have not heard of anything so ridiculous. My unit has certain guidelines but none that say anything about makeup. I am so glad that nurses are no longer allowed to wear any color or patterned scrub jacket that they want. One nurse was wearing a fluorescent yellow jacket and I thought it looked very unprofessional. Others wear crazy, loud prints that also look unprofessional. Now my entire hospital has a strict uniform policy. You can wear white or navy bottoms and white or navy tops and jackets. I think it looks very nice and professional.

Hi,

While that may sound harsh I kind of have to tongue in cheek agree.

I couldn't figure out what it was about a coworker of mine that just sort of rubbed me wrong for a few months at my new job, (eventually I got past it and saw her as a complete person) but, it was her full face and hair set-up.

We both work midnight shift and I realized that the amount of make-up that she had on just didn't make sense to me, (colors did not look garish but, it is obvious that it was the full make-up line).

Yes, hygeine and grooming are important but, it is indeed a reflection of something awry when it takes one who is not a make-up model, actor or tv personality as long as them to arrange their make-up.

Gen-maybe I will wear some face lotion and chapstick and a smidge more on occasion but....the full model shoot face...no

i have been in nursing school for 3 years and everytime we go on duty our clinical instructor whether a boy or a girl always reminds us to wear a make-up...they said it would look nice to look pretty for the patients at least when we face them were not only giving them a warm comforting and caring smile but also with a face that may seem to brighten a sick persons day...so i think make-up may help, but don't put too much on it though so that we won't look like a clown after a sweaty day on duty...

Yeah, make-up requirements would be the end of any future chances I have of being a nurse. First off, I don't know what half of that make-up stuff is. Foundation? Doesn't that have something to do with building houses?? and I also tend to believe that glitter is an essencial to any made up face. "Let me just dress your gapping wound while I dust it with bits of glitter everytime blink.."

So once I managed to get my hands on a wide array of fun colored make-up I'd end up with a rather frightening, but brightly colored clown-face. Ofcoorifice as I move about doing my duties the clown face would slowly slide off as I began to sweat.

Though I would probably have the nursing school record of most patients with cause of death being recorded as "Scared to Death"

yeah... badness.

Hi Ails,

As a faculty member, I agree that the "required to" is quite interesting! Does your school have a dress code for students contained in the handbook? If not, perhaps discussion with your student support group, if you have one, to take on to the admin. Patients are more comfortable with an educated professional doing the right thing, than cosmetic "repairs". ;)

Or it means I've managed to get a makeup routine down in under five minutes. But I'm sure you're right, knowing me so well as you do, and all. :uhoh3:

i've already posted my opinion, but i wanted to add...my makeup routine is under five minutes as well, if i can't get it all on my face in three minutes, it's too much!!

Anyone have tatooed lashes or liner done? I am 50+ and am considering it just to look human on the days I don't feel like it. Have not applyed makeup since my son's wedding in Oct of 2005.
