Anxiety following patient death
You did not hasten this death with this low dose of medication. You just ensured that the passing was peaceful. Too often in my many years on the wards have I seen Nurses withhold medication because they did not want to feel the how you now feel; This is to the detriment of the patient. When my death is inevitable I hope that it is hastened by a kind nurse ; I do not want to suffer or have my loved ones suffer watching a slow deterioration: (YES ; I do have terminal cancer). You assisted this patient in their time of need, that is what we do as nurses.

Make up...?
If you have time to put on make up before a shiftyour life lacks something; spouse children, a social life but something. Any way I look silly in make up.

Help! What should you buy a nurse for graduation? Reccomdations needed...thanks.
A good pair of shoes; remember we spends most of our working day on our feet. Good comfortable shoes are an investment not a luxury. The ladies like to be pampered so a manicure and massage sound about right too.

Family members as patients on your unit
I am in two minds over this. I have had my Father in Law in the Rehab unit when I worked there and there was no problem. I just did not give direct care. He was not really ill, just learning to walk again post amputation. [EVIL]On the other hand I have had a colleages mother on my current unit and with only the two of us on nights I dreaded that she might have a serious fall or pass away ( both a high probability at the time) and I was concerned at my co worker being able to cope in the circumstances.[/EVIL] I can see the need with specialist units for this to occur but the potential for a mishap to a family member in your care is worriying. Blame from siblings for not doing enough comes to mind

the best state ??
Forget the Capital cities, while you can get a wide variety of experience in them it is not in the one center. Look for an outer but major center, I am in Alice Springs and the variety here is great; jobs are plentyful. Other places I would go are provimcal cities like Ballarat, Newcastle or Broom. Big towns but with out the hassles of big cities.

Future job prospects for a NZ nursing graduate?
I don't know about NZ but jobs in the Alice in Central Australia are there in plenty. Come and enjoy the Territory experience

My dental hyginenist was surprised that I was an RN.
Slightly different but I found it amusing. I work in Geriatric assessment, Our consultant is a lady as is our current resident doctor. On a ward round recently, not one but three different women addressed the doctors as Sister and myself as Doctor. :chuckle

Marie's New Car
You've Got Mail A man was in his front yard mowing grass when his attractive blonde female neighbor came out of the house and went straight to the mail box. She opened it then slammed it shut stormed back in the house. A little later she came out of her house again went to the mail box and again opened it, slammed it shut again. Angrily, back into the house she went. As the man was getting ready to edge the lawn, she came out again, marched to the mail box, opened it and then slammed it closed harder than ever. Puzzled by her actions the man asked her, "Is something wrong?" To which she replied, "There certainly is!" My stupid computer keeps saying, "YOU'VE GOT MAIL."

Frog walks into a feed store.....
How to clean a Cat 1- Thoroughly clean the toilet. 2- Lift both lids and add shampoo. 3- Find and soothe cat as you carry him to the bathroom. 4- In one swift move, place cat in toilet, close both lids and stand on top so the cat cannot escape. 5- The cat will self agitate and produce ample suds. (ignore ruckus from inside toilet, the cat is enjoying this). 6- Flush 3 or 4 times, this provides power rinse which is quite effective. 7- Have someone open outside door, stand as far from toilet as possible and quickly lift both lids. 8 -Clean cat will rocket out of the toilet and outdoors, where he will air dry. Sincerely yours, The Dog. Please forward all complaints to the dog - it was her idea.

Male coworkers harrassing female staff...
I'm only reading page 1 at the moment and I can only say " Have them arrested NOW for assault." You tell some one once it becomes harrassment, then harrassment becomes assault; may not be legal but makes sense to me.

Australian Flag Unwelcome In Florida!
You have the right to say and do anything you like; so long as I agree with it. This lot sound as bad as my local council and their "Heritage" and "Green Belt" rules

Record of harassment (hello again gwenith)
I find this policy suspect in the extreme. Punish the trouble maker who has the nerve to stand up for themselves; I'm glad you have been to the ANF with this but I would like to know what the policy is in other hospitals: especially the one I work in. Listen to Grace, that all makes sense.

Shoes
Walter go to a GOOD shoe store and by an expensive pair of leather shoes with ankle support etc. I actually wear for work a pair of Industrial Safety boots. Arch support, ankle support and steel cap toe. If you are going to spent 8/24 and five shifts a week in these shoes you deserve the best you can buy. Also see a Podiatrist for his/her reccomendation.

What do you think about dating your coworkers?
Met and married while working in the same hospital, often the same Unit, nearly 27 years ago so I can't say it doesn't work but Like Teeituptom if I tried to date any one at work now death would be very slow and painful. I have also seen too many complications and problems from work place romances; not every one is like us.
