So, I said I would start this one after orientation so we could all have one thread to talk about things under instead of 10. What did everyone think of orientation? Any un-answered questions? And what start date is everyone requesting? Yay for the new uniforms/prices!
RE: Stafford Loan
I went today to get information about it. Say I or someone starts in January/March, the loan will just get carried over until then. You would still do it like you normally would. I hope that makes sense to you, if not call Financial Aid and they will be able to explain it further. :) However, I will have to pay out of the pocket for my Intro to Nursing class IF I start in August/October.
bugsmom925,
That's something that you are going to have to personally ask. I know what I was approved for. It's because that Intro to Nursing course is only 1.5 credits. We need to have 6 credits or more in order for the stafford loan to work. I guess we just have to wait till June 21st; wait and see what happens till then.
Hi everyone! :) I just noticed that the fall schedule became available for review today. I ranked pretty high so I should end up being an August start. I noticed that the lecture/theory classes are standard on Monday and Thursday mornings. However, there are several options for labs. Are we able to register for whichever lab date/time that we like on a first come, first serve basis? Or are we placed into the labs? Does anyone know the answer to this? Thanks. :)

Unless something changed when the curriculum changed, no you do not get to pick labs or clinicals. You can try to trade with people but they are assigned. Those of us already in the program receive a paper in the mail before registration with the sections we have to register for.
Again, the curriculum is different now so it is very possible something could have changed. Students used to get to pick their clinicals and then they changed it.
You can always email or call the secretary with questions, she is very helpful and knows everything :)
For those that are going to buy their stethoscopes soon, I recommend Redding Medical (Redding Medical - Littmann Stethoscopes) - I bought the Master Classic II (the ceil blue is really pretty!), had it engraved, and it was here 3 days later. Great service, no problems, and they are the cheapest I have found so far ($88 for the one I ordered).
I had a doctor's appointment today and noticed that there was an urgent care facility in the same building, so I went and asked about titers. The manager said that they would charge $8 for the blood draw and then the samples are sent to St. John for analyzing. St. John would then send a bill for the actual titers but she was not sure how much they would charge. Once we receive the actual paperwork from Macomb, they will take walk-ins. If anyone is interested, it is in the Northeast Macomb Urgent Care - 43900 Garfield Rd Ste 121 Clinton Township, MI 48038
(586) 868-2600. It is caddy corner from Macomb (across from the MISD).

I'm curious, why do you recommend this model? What makes it better than the Classic II S.E.? I was looking at the Classic but since I have no experience choosing a stethoscope I'm going by price! :)
I'm not necessarily recommending that model, I was recommending the company and then just telling everyone which one I bought. It is middle of the road (not the cheapest, not the most expensive, like they told us to buy at orientation) for Littmann - it had a better rating than the Master Classic S.E, it had better reviews on every site that I visited (from doctors, nurses, med students, etc.), and 2 of my cousins are nurses from U of M and they recommended it as well.
Zhockeymom - I went to Beaumont urgent care in GP Woods the other day (my 2 year old is really sick and it was after hours), and asked about the titers when I was leaving, and they said it would be a $100 copay (no matter what insurance) and then fees ontop of it, although they couldn't tell me then what they would be. Not looking forward to how much this is going to end up costing....

I tried to give the nursing office proof of insurance last year and they said they didn't need it, so honestly I don't know how they even check if anyone is insured. This year I am uninsured and I plan to just get an emergency insurance plan like Young Adult Blue. My insurance last year did not cover titers or vaccines, so check to see if the plan you pick does cover them.
