So, I said I would start this one after orientation so we could all have one thread to talk about things under instead of 10. What did everyone think of orientation? Any un-answered questions? And what start date is everyone requesting? Yay for the new uniforms/prices!
I just had my immunizations this week at the Macomb County Health Dept. - They were out of the regular Hep B and had to use the high risk dosage and the cost for the immunization was only $8!I booked my BLS today through the American Heart Association and it is held on a Saturday for 5 hours and the cost is $55.
Could you please share where you found the $140 titers at? Was that price for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (all separate), Hep B and Varicella? Every place I have called is much higher. Also, did you get a price on the drug panel? The cheapest I found was at Mt. Clemens Prompt Care for $31.
I contacted the American Heart Association and they provided me with the soonest BLS class that was in my area - I guess I'll be meeting some of you on 6/12! J It's $55 for a 2 year certification. The Red Cross is charging $75 for a 2 year certification, but their class is 8 hours broken into two days vs. American Heart's that is 5.5 hours all completed in one day.
As far as the titers go, I was told it was $140 for all three (if they were paid in full - cash). Otherwise, I think they'd be $60 each. I'm at work and the number is at home in my folder, but I think the place was called Detroit Bio/Medical lab. The place I originally called was located in Farmington Hills, but the person I spoke with said that they have a Sterling Heights location (on Van Dyke I think). I'll probably call next week to make an appointment, so I'll be able to post more info at that point.
I know the Macomb County Clinic said the TB test is $8, but I thought the lady told me that the HepB is $35 for each shot. I was planning on going next week to have both done. Does anyone know if it is too soon to get the TB test done?
I get the Federal Direct Stafford Loan through MCC to help pay for my schooling, which I will have to pay when I'm done with my schooling. I'm confused on how it works for Nursing school, because right now, I don't know when I will start until June 21st. However, we all have to take another prereq, Intro to Nursing. I have to have 6 credit hours in order for my loan to work. Does anyone have a clue? To my understanding, the Nursing courses are only worth 1.5-2.5 credits. I know for the first 8 weeks we will have four classes, which equal up to 4.5 credits, however with the Intro to Nursing (1.5 credits) it would total up to 6. We have to have that class way before we can go onto the NURS classes.

Hi everyone! I too was a bit discouraged by the orientation (doom and gloom), but I'm not going to let it get to me. I'm probably an August start but am requesting Oct. so for all those hoping for Aug. there's one spot open!! Good luck with all your tests and titers. I heard the health dept. was the best bet for cheap vaccines. Anyone else think they're Oct.? Also, is anyone taking the PHED 2070 this spring? I'll be in the night class.
