Hi all!
I've recently changed my major to pre-nursing, and am applying for the Spring 2015 semester this August! I've got tons of questions, and also have gathered a lot of research about the program from past forums and current students. This thread, I'm sure, will be helpful in both easing our nerves and providing insight about the upcoming application process! It seems to be different for every semester. I get attacked by my anxiety every time I question if my GPA will suffice! Has anyone started the application process yet (i.e., personal statement, HESI, etc.?)
i was at selu and was getting my pre recs there and took the chem they rquired and he said that would be fine aparantly im not the only one he told that miss gravla said
if you don't mind me asking - why LSU and not SLU for nursing if you took pre requs at SLU?
I am totally bummed - I had a 89 on hesi and 3.4 gpa. Even the teacher who interviewed me said I did perfectly and that she hoped I got in. Students I know in the school currently even said that her and the students were talking about me after saying that I did such a great job. Just not my time I guess.
Ah Chem 107. I got into an argument with SLU over that class because I refused to take it Bc I have a BS in chemistry. That's why I didn't apply there. LolThough I think I've decided to turn down my seat and go to charity instead anyway.
Just out of curiosity, what ultimately led you to choose Charity over LSU? I applied only to LSU because I moved here from Florida in February and was really unfamiliar with all of the schools nearby. I stuck with a name that I was relatively familiar with and after doing some research, I decided it would be a good fit for me. I was accepted and plan to attend but I am now starting to wonder if I should have explored my options a bit more before jumping in...
Congratulations on your acceptance to both schools!

I sent you a PM anrose
I have been lurking on this forum for a few months (throughout the entire application process), and reading all of your posts really has helped with my anxiety levels. Thank you all for sharing your experiences throughout this process! This was the impetus in creating an account and posting my information - I hope that it will help those applying in January.
This was my first time applying and I was accepted into the program. My GPA for the first 16 prerequisites is a 3.8, with a total (34 hours) GPA of 3.6. I made an 87.7 on the HESI, and all of my courses were completed before I applied. I do not think that I wrote the best paper, but I also know that I am my own worst critic when it comes to writing. However, I do feel that I nailed the interview.
Congratulations to those that were accepted! Best of luck to those that will be applying in the spring...don't give up...pursue your dreams!
If anyone plans on retaking the HESI exam, or is taking it for the first time to apply for future semesters I have two really helpful books that i'd be happy to pass on to you! The first is the Kaplan Nursing School Entrance Exams 5th edition. I used that one the most. Really helpful advice and some good practice tests. I wrote in it a bit with pencil but there are actually no markings on the practice test section so that could really help you out! The other is the official study manual for the TEAS test. (The school in Florida I had originally intended to go to required the TEAS as opposed to the HESI) but I think it may be a helpful refresher to skim through for anyone worried about the HESI! :) I used the first book a bit before taking the exam and I ended up with an 89% on my first try. Let me know if you're interested.
There're multiple reasons why chose LSU over selu, the main one was because I knew I could get into LSU faster, selu requires literally double the amount prerequisites and all they look at is GPA. I also chose LSU because the school is in New Orleans where as selu you have to travel between Hammond and Baton Rouge which I did not care for. Luckily I got into lsu on my first time applying my background is what I'm sure helped me a lot, I have been working in an emergency room for the past year and have my EMT basic license. I know they were really impressed with my interview and my goals paper is also would help me probably get in I had a 3.5 GPA and a 74.35% on my hesi test I have been told by multiple people as long as you get a 70 or above your fine I was worried about that for a while and thought about retaking it because I thought my score was low but I just decided not to and paid off
