original post from 2014, I guess things were more dire then. Landed a competitive job immediately out of school that gives all the OT i want - and believe me, i take advantage.

don't be afraid to email them. it's best not to leave these things to chance.

I'm gonna get it for the first semester for simplicity's sake; i'm in the middle of a bunch of non pre-req classes in SELU right now so i don't need even more things to worry about on top of getting all my immunizations and etc in order. I'll shop around insurances afterwards though. I'm going to guess that they really liked me being a veteran.

whoo took a look at the new student paperwork. gonna have to shell out for that insurance.

You took Chem 107 at SELU probably, the combo chemistry for nursing -- I had the same one.

I got in, first time applying etc. I was clearly below some of you in the alt list in terms of GPA and HESI, i can only surmise my paper, interview or background must have won them over. On a side note, I was also initially told I was unqualified, turned out I sent 2 transcripts and they only had 1 on hand when making the decision... but it was sent and received, so probably some kind of clerical error. i look forward to meeting y'all on orientation.

I got my acceptance today! I had 2 exam (non pre req classes) so I waited and watched the mail like a hawk. The mail lady showed up and I ran over like a lunatic. Anyway looking forward to meeting y'all. If you haven't gotten the letter yet good luck! I'll be driving in tomorrow morning to hand deliver my fee... last time i left something to chance (escripted transcript) it almost blew up in my face - not going to happen again.

hopefully this week we will get them. snail mail takes forever. didn't get mine yet but the mail guy comes super early.

nothing today. maybe tomorrow. anticipation hurts.

Don't give up. Around me, univ's will not take you if you failed a class two times or more, but that is absolutely not the same everywhere (just like some require the HESI, some don't, some use your pre req GPA, some use your cumulative GPA, some average your retakes, some take the highest, eetc) Sometimes the best thing you can do is just get that C and move on. There are plenty of nursing schools that will take you, they may not be your first choice or may require a bit of a commute, but there are so many out there it's not even funny.

I brought my GPA from a 0.7 to a 2.8 cumulative. Not that it was relevant, anyway, since all the programs in my area only care about your pre reqs and other stuff like HESI, interviews, etc. My pre-req GPA is a 3.5 since the programs also average (instead of replace) your scores on retakes. There are a couple "F's" in there that I retook (after many years of being in the military) and got A's in the second go-round, average out to C's, or else i'd be sitting on a much nicer 3.7. On the plus side, I had some long discussions with my advisors and administration in my (and other) university's nursing departments. They are realistic people who know that you don't always get school right the first go-round, and they appreciate hard work, enthusiasm, and just how serious you are about going into Nursing as your field. Not exactly a success story, not yet, but I am determined and am not going to give up no matter how bleak it looks... and boy, did it look FAR bleaker when i first started. Heck, the first advisor I spoke to flat out told me to change my major, i'll never make it. Now I've got plenty of letters of recommendation from my science professors and the nursing administrators have said they are impressed with how i've been able to turn around my grades. Better yet, when I expressed doubts they insisted that they look at the student as a whole rather than as a set of numbers. I'm not perfect or a brilliant student (or i'd have done this the first time), but it's nice to be recognized and galvanizes my performance. If it's what you really want to do, nothing will stop you. good luck.

I found A&P Lecture to be standard science fare, challenging and requiring study but not too difficult. The A&P Lab I on the other hand, well midterm was the professor handing us a blank sheet of paper and us identifying and giving functions. I was unprepared but had luckily studied (oh boy was that class empty after that exam) so I didn't go in completely blind. Eeked out a C. Final coming up, Studied my rear off this time as i knew what to expect, but right before the test I blanked on things I had been going over, panicked and started cramming along with all the other nursing students. Took it, was extremely brutal: forgot more than my share of things which i sadly remember now. I felt OK when I walked out of the class, but felt progressively worse until now when I am 95% sure I failed it and will walk out the class with a D and have to retake it. Yargh. I made A's in every other class I took including Micro and Micro Lab, and yet all i feel is the sting of failure.
