We had 2 LPNs that have been with us over 20 years only working in mother/baby, but have both lost their jobs last year. They would have been able to stay if they were willing to work towards their RN, but neither wanted to.
So, to answer your question, no. No LPNs in our childbirth center at all.
We have one LVN (LPN) in our L&D unit. She has been here 7 years or so and is "grandfathered" in. She refuses to take any classes to work towards her RN. We (the RN's) on the unit have to sign off on every assessment she does, also, she cannot circulate for sections, so if her labor patient winds up being a c-section, one of us has to drop our pt and circulate for her. It's not a good situation at all. I STRONGLY feel that LVN's should NOT work in Labor and Delivery....period!

Do they have LPNs in your labor and delivery? I know LPNs that are in postpartum - what about L&D or surgical LD? :bby:
