  1. LNDBSN replied to tammki5g's topic in Ob/Gyn
I worked long and hard to get this policy changed in our hospital. I called hospitals in a 200 mile radius and polled them. Some of them were afraid to give any information over the phone but I just continued until I had a satisfactory amount of information from surrounding hospitals. There are also numerous studies online that show that there is NOT a higher infection rate in home laundered scrubs vs. hospital laundered scrubs. We now wear our own scrubs in the OR for sections and tubals. It took me about 7 months to get the policy changed but it's definitely worth it! Good Luck!
  2. I am currently and have been a Labor and Delivery nurse for 23 years. I am looking for an OB related job other than inpatient nursing. Any ideas?
  3. I need some specifics about why your hospital does not allow LVN's to work in Labor and Delivery. We are having a HUGE problem with the one and only LVN in our unit. She charts very little--even on cases that wind up in stat C-Sections. We changed to all QS computer charting about a year ago. Since then, NO nurses co-sign her assessments or notes. She refuses to wear her badge because she doesn't want the patients to know she is an LVN. She takes care of Mag. Sulfate pts, critical pts.....and on and on. I have addressed this with our manager and the Director Of Nursing to no avail. I have looked up AWHONN guidelines and looked up "Scope of Practice" for LVN's on the BNE site......to no avail. PLEASE HELP ME!!!! I need specific reasons that mandate why this nurse should not work in L&D.
  4. Thank You so much. It makes sense now. Wow, I should have joined his site sooner! I could have saved hours of book scanning and internet searching. Thanks Again.
  5. We have one LVN (LPN) in our L&D unit. She has been here 7 years or so and is "grandfathered" in. She refuses to take any classes to work towards her RN. We (the RN's) on the unit have to sign off on every assessment she does, also, she cannot circulate for sections, so if her labor patient winds up being a c-section, one of us has to drop our pt and circulate for her. It's not a good situation at all. I STRONGLY feel that LVN's should NOT work in Labor and Delivery....period!
  6. I'm studying for my Inpatient Obstetrics NCC exam. I can't find the cause for increased DTR's and clonus for pre ecclampsia. I think it has something to do with Hypocalcemia? or something. Does anyone know? I've looked in William's, Googled it, etc, and still can't find the answer. Thanks
