Hello, its me again calgirl123. Well I may not have to make a decision to leave my nursing home because I just got suspended. I was signing for a med that was not given, I overlooked it somehow and thought it was d/cd, I honestly don't know how I missed something like that. The problem I have is there is numerous med errors just like this happening everyday at this place, whether it is meds that are signed for like they were given, but were never even ordered. Or med that are signed for but were never even ordered or given. These things are found on a daily basis.I can admit my mistake and I am horrified about it, But i am the only one who is being suspended for this same type of error. I have found so many instances just like this and had to fix them.. I don't know if I will be fired or not. I don't really care about this job, I only care about my license. I don't want to lose it. I am trying very hard to be a good nurse and I never thought i would have this hard of a time. Wow:yeah:I just got a call from a nursing home rite by my house that I applied to a while ago. God is amazing :redbeathe Anyway, I am very disappointed about all of this and I cant wait to start fresh, I may just quit before I go back. I just want to be professional about it I donut want to just not show up. Wish me luck and please new nurses pay close attention to your mar and meds. Please pray for me.:redpinkhe

Make sure you have the new job before you quit. You don't want to cut off your nose to spite your face. Good luck with getting the new job.

Good luck and no your not the only one who has signed for meds that were either d/c or not given I have seen a lot of nurses give meds and then sit down and go down the line signing the mar and I have even seen them sign prior to giving mars jut cutting corners especially in ltc.....

So many nurses get caught up n this trap. It is actually a no win situation. The MAR's are not accurate so the nurse gets the blame. If the nurse tries to weed through the incorrect MAR's they don't have enough time to actually give the med's. My advice is to just not sign unless you are absolutely sure that the 5 rights of medication administration are being adhered to.

i too have seen such things done over and over and over....i think i am the only nurse on my shift who signs meds as i give them...everyone else waits til the end of the shift to sign mars and even narc books....not me ....dont wanna risk it...but i had to fill out 4 med errors that fell on me on sunday and monday.......they were all med omissions.....pts were out of the meds and we didnt have them in back up and the pharm didnt deliver til too late to give them and the shift prior borrowed from other pts which we are not allowed to do so the ones they borrowed from will end up being short most likely for me and thus...ill have to fil out more med errors.....that are not my fault. luckily...my don talked to me about this and then she chewed out our pharmacy and told them that we shouldnt be filling out med errors for not giving a med that we dont have esp for meds that are not new etc etc.....it was nice to be backed up for once. i told her that even though the med errors that i reported made me look really bad..it wasnt my fault that i didnt have the meds to give...i did every single thing i was supposed to do to get them in there....and i didnt borrow. good luck with your hopeful new job! may it go much smoother.....oh....when you were suspended....did you tell your boss about all the others that did the same thing? if so...how did the boss react to that???? just curious

I'd say just stand up for yourself...talk to them about it... show them you're going to put forth the effort to not let this happen again. Show them you're a stand-up person and give them a call or something, instead of brooding about it at home until Monday. =)

I did and told him there were other nurses signing for meds that were never even ordered, he just said that he has to investigate. He had the nerve to say passing meds is easy just pour pass and sign. A few weeks ago I was written up for having to many gaps, now I have none but the state is coming and I think there trying to use me as an example. Dont get me wrong I take full respnsibility for the med error I made. I thought the abt was dcd and put in with the dcd meds, But I wasnt paying attention when I was signing I was so busy trying not to have any gaps, so even though the med was not in the narc drawer it was there with the pills in it but they were signed for. When this lady was first started on abt it was flagyl and avelox, the avelox was dcd and a new order for a higher dose was given, This is why I put it with the dcd meds, but I overlooked the new order somehow but was signing so I know how it looks to them, even though they know I would never intentially not give a med that was ordered and there. Any way, My point is that there have been plenty of the same kind of errors basically but they are fixed and covered up. I just feel like there doing this to show the state there working on fixing the problem, even though its been there since I was a cna. They are due for survey any time now. I told them that if Im being suspended than they should suspend everyone because all the nurses at my facility do this because it so crazy there you literally dont have time to fix all the things that need fixing. We dont get done passing am meds until 12, its ridiculous. And thats only when you dont have to go to the dining room. So, needless to say Im hoping to find another job befor they call me on Mon. I should have left along time ago. Sorry I made this kind of long Thanks for your reply I appreciate it.:p
