I know one facility that utilized LPNs in post partum and when the well baby nursery was opened because of maternal complications during L&D. Never as an L&D nurse due to scope of practice. LPNs are limited to focused and ongoing assessment not initial or comprehensive assessments. LPNs cannot triage. Most states state LPNs cannot do IV push medications. All skills necessary in an L&D setting. L&D isn't just helping catch babies, it's constant and assessment & monitoring of a laboring mother and delivery, possibly assisting with a surgical birth then transfer to postpartum within a few hours of delivery

I'm a recent LPN graduate and I would really love to work in Labor & Delivery. Does anyone know of places that offer LPN jobs in L&D? I'm currently in Tennessee and haven't seen any LPN's that work in this area, but I'm about to move to Iowa/Illinois.
