LPN in FL, failed pre-employment drug screen..What will happen now?!

Published

I was offered a job and they performed a urinalysis on site, I did not expect this to happen. I took a 7.5/15 ml dose of hydrocodone on Tuesday afternoon, I took the drug screen on Friday morning so I am sure that I failed. Now I am worried about what will be done. Could I lose my license? Please spare me the speech about drug use, I am well aware of how stupid this was, I just want to know what could possibly happen, I am hoping for some honest and non judgemental insight, how will they let me know I failed, will they report me to BON, What actions might be taken against me?

That is great news, OP. I'm glad everything w worked out ok for u.

Try to keep this in mind - check with your MD and see if he will write u a script for something for pain if u need it.

Congrats on your job offer! Let us know how it goes.

Anne, RNC

Yay! A person using narcotics illegally will now have unlimited access to more narcotics. Yay!

I'm sorry?

I'm sorry?
What's confusing you? This board is about RECOVERY and support of that recovery right? Or are we celebrating people that for all we know may have a problem with substance abuse, and are now congratulating them for slipping through the cracks in the system?

You should be sweating....what makes you think it won't happen again?

Newsflash....if you use once you will do it again.

The real question is..

Do YOU have a desire to seek recovery... Or are you in denial that there might be a problem?

The HR department called and offered me a job.. does that mean they have the results of the drug screen? Would they give me a nursing job without knowing the results?
Congratulations.....It can be a conditional offer pending your screen. Or you may have passed.

I hope you have learned from this.

She may not have a problem and just becasue "you use once you'll use again" I was visiting my parents and slid off their porch, down the stairs and into the driveway in the snow/ice hurting my back smacking my head on the car in the driveway and giving myself a black eye. Thank GOD I didn't have one of my kids in my arms. That night I was in agony. Could I have gone to the ED? I suppose so. I took one of my Mom's Darvocets that night. I hurt in the morning, and I had quite the shiner... but I was better.

Does that mean I needed recovery? No. Should I have taken that med? Uhm...probably not. Do I feel guilty that I did? No.

Does the OP need to think very long and self examine the ramifications of their actions? Yes.

Well if I had cramps I would not have jeopardized my license...maybe took an aleve.

Quite a risk for one time use...it would suggest there is a deeper issue.

The OP already knows she made a very very stupid and risky choice. Maybe she is like me and will end up diverting or maybe she is like the 90% of the population that doesn't have addiction issues. If she is an addict she will get caught, hopefully just causing harm to herself and no one else (of course doesn't count the financial stress we cause our patients and facilities). No matter the outcome at least she knows how to reach out to us. And to the OP: if you are an addict go to NA it's anonymous and people there can help you, if you are not an addict I hope lesson was learned!

Thank you to all those that have been supportive and offered words of wisdom, for those of you that sit in judgment of me, I totally understand where your coming from, I learned my lesson and after the anxiety that I've had for days, I will not be taking risks again..

I hope everything works out for the best. God bless.?

Congrats but I agree... never do that again. I just had a drug screen this week and the nurse told me that they can test you at any time!! At my facility if you so much as cut your finger they'll send you to employee health for a drug screen and if you're positive they do report to the BON. The nurse told me she has already seen several cases where ppl tested positive because they just took meds that were given to them by family members when they were sick and didn't know what it was. Needless to say they got in serious trouble for that cause they didn't have a script and it contained a narcotic. Not worth the risk at all.
