Hi!~ I don't know which posts you read in which RNs go to clinical sites every 2 weeks, but that sure sounds like very little clinical time unless it was the 1st semester. The first semester of clinicals, we literally started the 2nd week of classes at the clinical site but only once a week for a 7-2PM shift. This next semester we go EVERY WEEK 2 days 7-2PM shift. We do this the entire course length of 14 weeks and our clinical days start the very first week, no breaks before starting. We jump in with our clinical orientation on the 15th of Jan. which is the 2nd start day of the semester. Also, my college just sent me the information about my 2nd semester clinical site and I had to complete 2 hrs. of at-home online orientation which had to be completed prior to the start of the semester.
i start the lpn nursing courses january 2nd. starting february 4th, 2008 through december 15, 2008 our schedule will be as follows:m -w - f: 7am - 2pm at the clinical site
t-th: 11:30 - 2:30 lecture/theory
this seems like so much. in addition, time must be scheduled in the simulation lab and video library. i've read other posts on here where rn's go to clinical sites every other week for only 2 days. we go 3 days per week for almost 11 months! our breaks between semesters are only a few days.
my school offers a bridge to rn program and lpn's only have to complete 1 year of clinicals 2 days every other week.
i am wondering why we have so much clinical time scheduled? it seems that when we graduate we will have logged as many clinical hours as the graduating rn class has.....and the rn's went for 2 years!
anyone have insight?
i kinda have the same schedule as you.
mon.-tues. = lecture (9am to 3:30pm)
wed. - fri. = clinicals (8am to 2pm)
and mine is a 15-month lpn program.
it depends on the school whether they just want to do the minimum time spent in clinicals required by your state's bon.
my school used to be a 10-month program and had the minimum clinical time required by the sbon but had a low passing nclex rate. then, about 5 years ago, they implemented this 15-month program and now we have a 100 percent nclex passing rate all the time.
i am about to graduate in six weeks and i am glad i have a lot of clinical experiences.
good luck with school.
