Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

What acronyms have you heard for LPN? I have heard Lower Paid Nurse and Little Play Nurse. The first is true, not so much the second! Just curious what else you guys have heard!

I've read acronym here somewhere.. it's Let's Play Nurse.. or how about Lifesavers for People Now.. idk just havin' fun. :yeah::typing:):redpinkhe:D:nurse::nurse::nurse:

Specializes in med/surg, cardiology, advanced care.

How about Let's pretend nurse? That's the one I've heard most often. How do you guys deal with this? I could use some tips. No matter what I do, I get alot of negativity from alot of RN's. Don't know if it has something to do with the fact that I work for an agency in addition to being an LPN or what. This is really starting to get to me. How do you keep a positive attitude?

Never heard any acronyms except online. I believe I saw Licensed to Play Nurse here. As far as dealing with the negativity, unless you want to engage in such conversations, I would do my best to ignore them. An RN supervisor chimed in on a conversation taking place between myself, my new DON, and another supervisor one time where it was being discussed that I was pursuing a BSN. This nurse made a rude comment referring to the substance that bulls excrete. The other two nurses did not pay any attention to her comment and neither did I. Mind you, this nurse had been out of nursing for years and could not hold her own at her job and was already identified as lazy to boot. Not long after this comment, she was terminated. So much for her comment. When people banter about in play, that is one thing, but when there is an underlying current that is not funny or meant to be, that is another. At least, when you encounter such talk, you are given clues about what certain people think about you and what they are saying behind your back. I wouldn't trust these people anymore than I trusted that nursing supervisor from so long ago.

Specializes in Geriatrics/Family Practice.

"Let's Pretend Nurse", and "Licensed Pee oN'

Specializes in LTC.

My mom, who is very ill and in the hospital a lot, keeps talking about pretend nurses and how they never know anything about her IVs. I imagine the pretend nurse is some play on LPN.

Least 'Ppreciated Nurse

Specializes in Home Health Care,LTC.

i had an RN that I worked with that always down grades the lPN she worked with. she would always refer to us as Lets Play Nurses. but we worked harder than she did. we would find her hiding in an office (noc shift) working on school work (masters) or sleeping.

needless to say she got fired for her attitude and the falling asleep at noc and doing homework instead of helping take care pt. we had usually 2 nurses and 2 cna for a 174 bed facility.

I never let her see it bothered me but I did write her up and report her several times. but I was not the only one who did this. Cna complained as well as other LPN's

I've heard most of these, but my overall favorite is Licensed Practical Nut - which in my job (ER) you have to be.:selfbonk:

By the way, I created a support thread last summer regarding LPNs. It was entitled "Life's Perfect Nurses." Most people were supportive. Click on the link below if you feel like browsing through it.

I've heard LPN's are Lets Pretend Nurses and RN's are Real Nurses. It takes a lot for something to bother me, but that distinction always has. I am going to school to be an LPN and will be done by Dec. of 09 and then moving on to RN and then BSN all the way up to MSN so that I can eventually be a Nurse Practitioner. I think that everyone in the healthcare field deserves respect and we all went through training to get where we are no matter if you are a CNA or a Practitioner. Obviously SOMEONE felt our position was useful, otherwise there would not be standardized tests made out for us LPN's just like there are for RN's...and there wouldn't be programs or positions available like there are. Some people should just do the best job they can and stop demeaning other people to make up for their lack of self-esteem.

Low Paid Nurse and Real Nurse I like "LOVABLE and PASSIONATE NURSE" :redpinkhe
