  1. I was also wondering about 3 and1/2 yrs. i got my LPN in NY and it took 9 months. Are you doing one class at a time?
  2. I received my IV cert. through Nursing Unlimited it was a 30 hour course given in 2 days. You can go to their website at http://www.nursingunlimited.com and clinic on their IV course. I believe they have them throughout the state of Florida.
  3. I've heard most of these, but my overall favorite is Licensed Practical Nut - which in my job (ER) you have to be.:selfbonk:
  4. How far south you want? I'm in the middle of the Florida Keys and am attending FKCC until 12/09.
  5. Hi my name is Dyna and you can probably guess where I live by my screen name. I've been a LPN for the last 16 yrs. 13 of which were at a SNF and hated it. When I lived in NY I was going threw the College Network/Regents program, but moved to Florida in '99. At which time they did not offer such a program in this state, so I gave up for awhile. I worked in a Pediatrician's office for awhile and loved it:D, but my doctor left town and me without a job:cry:. One would think that being a LPN I wouldn't have a hard time finding a job, not the case. I was unemployed and babysitting for tourists for 4 months.:crying2:Then noticed an ad in local paper for a LPN in ER. I've never worked ER before, but figured what the heck. Well, I got the job:uhoh21:and I love it:D So I applied for the RN program 2 years ago and was told I would have no problem getting in:yeah:. Well the 22 month program I applied for is now going into it's 3rd year:banghead: with me finally enrolled as a RN student:nurse: I graduate in Dec'09 right before my 40th bday. I still have some co-req to finish, but right now I'm enrolled in Fundamentals of Nursing(which I get to audit:smokin:guess 16 yrs has it's perks), Speech, Pharmacology, and Intro to Algebra plus working full time night shift in ER. I'm quite stressed at the moment, hopefully the summer will be better when I only have to take nutrition and microbiology:eek: Will be looking for study partners.:typing
  6. As a LPN for the last 16 yrs out of 13 SNF. I think you made a wise choice. I'm currently working in an ER and going back to nursing school. My suggestion is that you call the hospital and see if the CNO received your application(what jobs do your family hold) maybe they can introduce you and ask if they have a floor position open. Also, it might be helpful if you ask them about scholarship programs and do they help towards furthering education. I know the hospital I work at usually only hires LPN's for the floor and I got really lucky, but you never know until you try.:hngon:The funs just starting. You also might want to check night shift, they typically have more openings. (OOps looks like you already work nights to be up this late)
  7. Are you in a state that is unionized and are you a part of that union? Do you carry malpractice insurance? They will pay for a lawyer in some cases and there is always arbitration. I was fired unjustly and immediately fought back. Not only did they have to give me my job back they had to reinstate me with full benefits and any money I did not make while i was away. Since moved away and on to better things, but stand up for yourself.
  8. LOL I hope not because I'm 36 & just started my prereq for my RN & will be 40 when I graduate. Age does not matter. We need nurses desperatly & go for your RN or you'll be in the same boat I'm in. A College Student at 36:penguin:
  9. Not necessarily. I'm from CT but my fiance from Cleveland & I've got to remind him to say excuse me after belching. Also my Boston twang gets him all the time. It's a wonder we can understand each other at all. Helps that we met & live in Florida.
  10. flkeyslpn replied to ERERER's topic in Emergency
    1. FF that drive around the parking lot or call ER asking what MD on just so they can get narcs. 2. ER Docs that think we don't know s*** & the pt that gave us the wrong info to begin with 3. The COPD pt that always calls EMS at midnight c/o SOB, but waiting outside house with overnight bag smoking a cigarette
  11. u are being unrealistic to think that all moms should have x-mas off to spend with their children. Exactly who do u think will be working? What about the male nurses? It's not important for dad to be there? And since I don't & can't have my own children y should I have to pick up shifts for those that do? I've been nursing for 13 years & out of the 13 I've had Christmas off once during which time I spent in ICU with my grandfather watching my grandmother pass away. Every other Christmas I always asked my co-workers with children if they would like the day off & typically worked a double shift. It all depends on how u are approached.
  12. If you are starting off at $18.00 full time with benefits as a new grad you are doing good. I live & work in the Florida Keys & have been a LPN for 15 years & the starting pay down here is $15.00 full time with benefits at both the LTC & Hospitals. Maybe I should move!!
  13. I work as an LPN in our ER & make no where near what a RN would make. What state do you work in?
