Lost a friend in the process...

Published

I guess this is really just to vent, but I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar situation.

I had a really good friend going into applying for the nursing program. We were attending the same school, taking pre-reqs, and applied for the program together. Well, I was accepted, and she wasn't. Now, of course, she wants nothing to do with me.

I am genuinely sorry that she did not make it in the program, and really want her to see her dreams come true. I always feared that if she was not accepted, she would hold it against me, but thinking the worst, and it actually happening, is just upsetting.

Just wait until you are in the nursing program. Then it'll happen again and again. More seats will be empty in class as time goes by.

All you can do is be happy about your own success, and offer a measure of compassion to those who don't make it.

well it is too bad that SHE lost a friend, anyways... if she was such a FRIEND why did she take that personaly? more over her EMO reaction to it would not have a great outcome when and if she got accepted!

nurses cant be to EMO about stuff, we have to take it and be though! otherwise, all of us, wont make and become cry babies!

thoughen up there, it is a drill and we will make it!

I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. Sometimes people become jealous when they see us doing something they can't.

I am new in the USA so fortunately i won't have to face that.

Perhaps in time your friend will come around. She should not give up if it is her dream, many are rejected but do not give up and later become not only good nurses, but exellent ones.

I'm sorry that your going through this. I have the same situation but my friend knew she would probably not be accepted. My friend had already worked out plan B. I didn't call her to tell her I was in because I didn't want her to feel bad she called me and told me she didn't get in but knew I made it because in the letter they told her the lowest number of points needed to get in.

I think that the best thing you can do is give your friend time. Her dream didn't happen yet and she has to get used to that fact and find her plan B. Even though she is happy for you it hurts alot for her to know that she will not be continuing on with you. Grieving takes time.

I would talk to her and tell her how much she has hurt you with her behavior. She may be feeling bad as well and may not know how to approach you now that she's acted a donkey with you. Give a go, you may find that she's really feeling low for her behavior. If not then at least you know the deal...she wasn't/isn't a true friend.

So sorry that you have lost a friend. It was her decision to break ties, not yours so just go forward ready to make new friends in school. You will have plenty to keep you occupied. It is now up to her to find her own way.

Yes it is sad, but was she really a friend to behave like that?

People come into your life for a reason and a season....REMEMBER THAT ALWAYS!!!

It's so funny that you said that, cause that is exactly what I have been telling myself. She came into my life, motivated me on my path back to school, and now she is gone. She served a very important purpose in my life, and it is time to move on. Thank you.

I strongly believe that so I don't miss ANYONE unless it's my close family. In this world, we meet so many people and that's a part of life. They have friends and they have people I call "ends". The "ends" will mess you up to the end and just don't deserve to be a part of your life so forget about them.

You will be fine!!! So best of luck in your pursuits!!

Nicely said, Akinini!

Honestly, it doesn't matter since you will be SUPER busy and won't have time for this so called friend anyway.

It's good to think of it as practice before rotations because there may be some drama during your years in clinicals and you will need some serious strength (and humor) to see past drama. Enjoy school and congratulations!!
