How important is GPA while in Nursing school?
Now we're stereotyping 4.0 students as lousy nurses with no common sense? Very nice. Yes, there is a lot to be said for experience, but I'm pretty sure that goes for all students and graduate nurses. I don't know why there is such a negative stigma on student nurses. Every nurse was once a student, and every nurses has probably asked a stupid question at some point during they're learning process. Every nurse has to start out somewhere, so why not mentor the students and help them to excel? I know... another topic all together, but that comment gets my blood boiling! I do not think I am any better than anyone else for my GPA. That was a personal goal for me, and I feel proud to have achieved it, but I also excel clinically, because that is my passion. I do not know everything, but what I don't know I will find out... I just hope I have the support of my team as I progress on my journey.

Wow! Why does everybody on here assume that you have to give up your family life to get the A? I have a family and 4 kids, I took my last lecture exam yesterday, and I got a 4.0 in all of my nursing classes, while managing to also have a great family life. Like all things, there is a balance, and time management is very important, but yes... you can have both!

How important is GPA while in Nursing school?
Same for my school... less than an 80 is failing... and no rounding, so yes, a 79.9 is failing, and you would have to reapply the next year! I personally always strive high, cause it's in my nature. I don't want to kill somebody someday cause I worked for a "B". I have a friend who is content with an 80 average, always living on the edge... the most annoying thing he can say to me (and frequently does), is that when we graduate, we're both gonna have the same RN at the end of our name, and both get the same starting pay. I guess it's mostly frustrating, cause I know for the most part, he's right! I can only hope that the little extra work I put in will help me to pass my boards more easily, will help me to get my choice of jobs when I graduate, and will allow me the pride of knowing I did my best... I'm sure one day my patients will thank me too! Graduation is in 5 weeks... The light is just ahead!

Any LSCC Students?
There is no waitlist, acceptance is dependent upon good grades and your HESI score. They usually accept about 72 students per year, between both campuses, and if you don't get in the first time you apply, you must reapply the following year, and you are put back in the pool with everyone else applying. I am at the South Lake campus and every single one of my instructors are very supportive and encouraging. The program is definately doable, and I highly recommend it!! =)

Any LSCC Students?
1 - I am currently a second year, so I can't speak personally, but I can tell you that last year LSCC had 100% pass rate, and the highest scores in the state. So far this year, every student that I know, that has taken it, has passed, so I'd say they are pretty well prepared. 2 - LMAO!!! I don't mean to sound harsh, but someone was definately BS'ing you! You never get paid for clinicals, it's free labor. However, once you finish your first semester of nursing school you can work at the hospital as a Tech and get paid, but that is not to be confused with your clinicals. I hope I have helped answer your questions! =)

My advise is not to sweat the HESI... It's basic Math and reading comprehension. Just do your best! Sounds like your GPA is great; that combined with a good HESI should get you in... Good luck! Angela

Venting about classmates with families...
Yes, we all have our own sets of problems, and yes, having children does complicate going to school... but despite the hardships, they are worth everything, and most mothers would tell you that they are back in school for their kids... to give them a better life. I don't think they need your pity; maybe they just need the opportunity to vent every once in awhile... isn't that what friends are for?

Lost a friend in the process...
It's so funny that you said that, cause that is exactly what I have been telling myself. She came into my life, motivated me on my path back to school, and now she is gone. She served a very important purpose in my life, and it is time to move on. Thank you.

Lost a friend in the process...
Unfortunately, I have offered to help her research certain things and tried offering suggestions that I was considering as a plan "B," however, she told me that she didn't want my help; that I just make her feel stupid. The other day I tried calling to say Hi, very friendly, and when she didn't answer left her a friendly message saying I missed talking to her, and mentioned that maybe sometime soon we could meet so that I could get my four year old daughter's wallet from her. I never heard back from her personally, but the next day her husband dropped by my house and handed me my daughter's wallet. I guess this means I have my answer. Thank you all for your support. From here on out I know I have offered myself completely, and I have to let go! I am fully focused on school and can't afford any distractions. This is one of the most exciting times in my life, and I intend on making the most of it! Nursing school... here I come!!! *wine Xoxo, Angela

Lost a friend in the process...
Thanks to all of you for your kind words. I know you are right and I will not let her ruin this for me. This is a dream come true for me, and I couldn't be more excited about it! It's just always hard when you lose a friend; or maybe better said in this case, when you find out that someone was never truly your friend to begin with.

Lost a friend in the process...
I guess this is really just to vent, but I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar situation. I had a really good friend going into applying for the nursing program. We were attending the same school, taking pre-reqs, and applied for the program together. Well, I was accepted, and she wasn't. Now, of course, she wants nothing to do with me. I am genuinely sorry that she did not make it in the program, and really want her to see her dreams come true. I always feared that if she was not accepted, she would hold it against me, but thinking the worst, and it actually happening, is just upsetting. Xoxo, Angela

I am going to LSCC (Lake Sumter Community College) in Clermont! I am so stoked! Anyway, good luck with SCC... I hear they have a great program! And don't worry about what to do... just check out all your options and apply to all of them. Then you have your options open!
