Lost my dream job

Tomorrow i go back to work after a well deserved vaca, and I dread it.

During my break I got to interview with my dream hospital, for a dream position

after two years since graduating trying to get an interview at this place I finally landed one.

I prepared for this thing like my life depended on. Bought a new suit, got my hair done

nails done, paper work organized, drilled myself on questions over and over and over.

I was passed over because I didn't have a BSN.

Devestated. Angry. Frustrated. are only a few words to describe how i feel.

Going to work tomorrow knowing that I'm back at square one.

I am so angry with myself for being to lazy to apply to a BSN completion program

I made several attempts to, but never had any motivation to get it together.

Now my motivation comes to late because I lost out on a job that I have dreamed about FOR YEARS.

Wanna hear what's even more infuriating....all i need is 6 classes to get my BSN.

I can't stop kicking myself over my stupidity.

Now it's back to work, feeling the same anxiety and dread. The crying, the depession. Knowing i can't up and quit because I have responsibilities.

how could i have been so stupid?

Keep your chin up. Don't let this get you down, instead use it as motivation. Get serious about getting your BSN and go get it. When your done reapply and hopefully a position will be open.

Don't beat yourself up. Your soo close. Much closer than many. Use this as motivation to complete your BSN and get that dream job. Just because you were passed up this time doesn't mean there wont be other opportunities. As an experienced nurse you should have no problem getting that job once you have your BSN. I know its not fair that just because you dont have a BSN you didnt get the job but unfortunately that's the way the job market is going. I'm sorry you dread your job. What parts don't you like about it? Is there anything that can be done about those in the mean time while you finish your BSN?

All I can say is use this as your motivation to get your BSN. I know how you feel, really and truly. But this isn't the last and only chance. Hopefully you made a good impression and they will remember you. Enroll now and call the recruiter once you start. Remind her of your interview and tell her you are very interested in x position. Tell her you will be done with your BSN by such and such date. Then once you have graduated start stalking the website for that position again. Call and ask or email and remind the recruiter who you are again. At this point, you have nothing to lose. Best of luck!

It's your "dream" job. It's not the end of your life. It's not even the end of your dream. There's always another dream coming along, and if you get nothing else out of all the posts, take my word for this, you really wont even know if you lost something, or if they did you a favor by passing you over for a long time. Only time will tell that. Put it in perspective, the BSN is still available, and there may be a better job waiting for you at the end of that. The very worst that you will remember this as will be a lesson. Wishing you rapid healing, and a long happy life.

  • Don't beat yourself up.
  • Many, myself included, learn best through hard knocks.
  • Your motivation has not necessarily come too late.
  • Get moving on enrolling to complete those last six classes.
  • Write a letter to the people you interviewed with thanking them for the opportunity to meet, interview with and learn more about (whatever facility or role etc it was ) yada yada and that you are even more interested in this role since meeting with them. So interested in fact, that it has prompted you to return and complete you BSN in the hopes that there will be another opportunity for this position down the road and at that time you will be more competive.
  • Save copies of the letter and any and all contacts you've acquired through this process.
  • Go finish your BSN and then get back with them with a "you may recall I met with you.........." letter requesting an interview.

I can only speak for myself, but in that scenario, I would most likely interview you again at the time.

At any rate, it's worth a shot and you'll have your BSN.

And if anyone still wonders about the answer to the current question posed in another thread, "what's the incentive for getting a BSN ", here is a prime example.

My very sincere best wishes to you. Disappointments such as these are difficult, but you will survive. Some wine and/or pint of Ben & Jerrys ( CHunky Monkey is my personal favorite) never hurts either. Chin up!

Its easy to beat yourself up in a situation like this. Now you have the motivation to get the advanced degree. In this crummy economy, its nice to have a job even if its not your "dream job". You'll get there eventually! I'm doing a ADN-BSN program right now and it only takes a year, and its gone by surprisingly fast :)

If you're so close to getting your BSN, you should totally do it!! There is no reason why you wouldn't have another opportunity to interview there again. In fact, they'll probably be very impressed with your motivation. Good luck to you!

No, its about 50% online. Cal State East Bay. I hear CSU Dominquez Hills has one all online

Are you doing yours online? May I ask what college only takes a year?

Its been my experience that quite a few online RN to BSN programs can be completed in one year. 3 offered in my state can all be completed in one year with full time study or 3 years with part time study.
