This is for those of us that will be applying to LA county college of nursing and allied health's fall 2014 semester. I will be submitting my application for the basic RN program tomorrow... Yayyy!!! I am beyond excited, I can't believe this time has finally come!
Having a child and going to attend nursing school? Hats off to you...County has a great program and I've been told by graduates & staff members that those who graduate usually get jobs within the County system since County has the reputation of really preparing their students during clinicals. When I went to the information session in January, the advisor told us that at one point during the program, you are responsible of taking care up to 4 patients vs. 1-2 a student in a BSN program usually takes care of. I've read some comments on here from past threads that nurses sometimes comment how County graduates are more prepared than new grad BSN's (don't know if that's true).
That's what I want anyways!!! My dream hospital is county actually... I live for the action!!!!

lol... then I think County would suit you. The advisor also told us that County hospitals tend to get patients who are sicker (since many of them don't have health insurance & can't afford to pay, etc...) so you are definitely more exposed to a variety of health levels/situations. Perhaps this is true, perhaps it's not; I'm just going off of what she said and past threads. haha.
I definitely recommend that you attend an information session! :) The advisor was really friendly and answered all questions...

I want to but I'm waiting for the dates!!!
It's ok.. To be honest the schedule for csula is kind of crazy... Sometimes you have class from 8-11 and then again from 6-8pm the same day with a huge gap in between.. I have a child so I don't have time for that!!! Lol I really like the schedule for la county and I've heard really good things about the program
i have heard great things about County and they offer the BSN collab with CSU!
