  1. Hi BrittanyAlyson13! Congratulations on graduating nursing school and passing the NCLEX...WELL DONE! Best feeling ever right? I PM'd you....
  2. Hi Kk! I realize this post is older now, but wanted to check in and see if you were able to secure a new grad position!
  3. Hi! I work nights as a CNA and used to struggle with this so I made some adjustments. I got a huge bag of unsalted plain almonds from Costco, low sodium/sugar granola bars, oatmeal, cut fruit and veggies, water bottles, etc. Basically, finger foods for on the go and 30 min lunches. It was nice to snack on my 15 min breaks, and then veggies and oatmeal and fruit on my lunch without having "heat up" and "cool down" time for food. Made a huge difference in my shift to be able to grab a handful of almonds while charting or on 15 min break. No more starving feeling. Good luck!
  4. In my program, they did not round up. And as another poster mentioned, I also know of a few that were dropped from the program even within a tenth of a point. They have to draw the line somewhere and I was fine with them not rounding. Gave us more to work toward and kept us on our game versus going in with the mentality of "its okay, my grade will be rounded". Lol.
  5. For my program, orientation was mandatory. If you didnt show up, it was considered forfeiting your spot and it was given to an alternate. Best to check with school. Nursing school focuses a lot on hard deadlines and professionalism. I hope yours wasn't mandatory and that other arrangements can be made. Best of luck!
  6. I am a major control freak. But, its out of my control right now. We are now at the mercy of the board so no sense in driving myself crazy. They have everything they need to complete my file until I hear otherwise. I just keep telling myself this. Lol!
  7. Yes. I am in CA though and I didnt/dont expect to have ATT for a while. Try not to stress about the ATT. That is the least of my worries. I will take this "extra" wait time to review and relax. It will come eventually [emoji3]
  8. I also didnt take the pharm course. I do not feel it "needed". You will get plenty of pharm in first semester. 2nd-4th, pharm is built into your theory curriculum. I would focus more on completing any BSN requirements you want to get done like chem, stats, etc.
  9. Erikkkkkkkkkk! Congrats Dude!
  10. @mom, I am not sure what the alternates are required to do, etc. I think they talk about it at the info session.
  11. Dont trip out about it at ALL! Its very simple math. And like I said, you will have 3 attempts to pass it. No one in my cohort ever failed out because of the calc exam. You will have one for each semester with the exception of 3rd semester where you will have 2....one for adult med surg and one for OB/Peds. That test is the LEAST of your worries. Mwuahahahaahh. Jk!
  12. Congrats you guys!!!!! So happy the wait is over. Mom2livryaneli....do not give up hope and be sure to attend the information session. COC sends out acceptance letters earlier than most colleges. What does that mean? That alternates have a chance! Some dont show up for orientation, and some accept other programs AFTER orientation. There is this person who was called on a Friday and classes started that Monday! Good luck! Keep us updated!
  13. I am Happy to! First semester here it goes.....For the first 6 weeks, you will have two classes. Pharm and theory. Pharm is 2 days, theory is 1 day and the remaining 2 days are skills lab. I think its week 4 where you take the dose and calc exam. You must pass at 100%. You have 3 times to pass or you will be dismissed from the program. The math isn't anything crazy for first semester. In fact, all 4 semesters the dose and calc exams are pretty straight forward, so just practice and you will be fine. You will have exams in both pharm and theory. All exams and coursework must average 75% at the end of 6 weeks. In addition to this, you will have practicums which you must also pass. Those are pass/fail. Then if you pass all your practicums and exams, you will move into the second half of the semester. You will have one day theory, 2 days pharm, and the two days you had skills lab will be replaced with your hospital clinical days. First semester was the most challenging for me from a time management perspective. Working and going to nursing school is tough, but you have to find a way to work around your schedule for study time. At COC, you do not get to select your class schedule or clinical site/days so once you get your schedules, you will need to get creative with personal obligations. Once you accept your seat, you need to make this program your absolute priority. This is NOT to scare you at all. Its just to prepare you for reality. I have received good grades during the program and that is because I commit to school first. Everyone has their own method and schedule to do things. I believe depending on how you manage your time, you can still have a life outside of nursing school. I went to my brothers wedding out of state last week and still find time for dinner with friends, etc. Each time I know our exam dates, I make a schedule of what chapters/skills I will practice on certain days to make sure I dont slack and then try to cram. Also remember, everyone's experience is different and it is what you make of it. If you hear how hard it is or scary it is, take that as a challenge and kill it!!! Dont listen to the negative and just focus on what is important to YOU. Any other questions, feel free to ask!
  14. You will get out of it what you put into it. Study any chance you get! I work and go to school. If you are committed to it, you will be just fine!
  15. When I applied for Fall 2014, I did not have any healthcare experience. While i think it does offer you some point(s), its not heavily weighted.
