Lonestar Fall 2013 hopefuls

Published

Hi everyone!

I just submitted my application for the Fall 2013 Lonestar College basic track ADN program. LSC-Montgomery is my first choice, followed by LSC-North Harris, and LSC-Tomball.

I applied with an 11.81. Has anyone else out there applied, or are you preparing to apply?

Looking forward to starting a supportive and informative Lonestar thread, as applicants have the past few years

It's from 6:30pm-9pm. You do need to call them and tell them you want to attend the class. Then you just give them your name and phone number. That's it! They do have another class on the 18th in the morning if you can't make it to that one.

Thanx a lot!!

I just got off the phone with Montgomery. She said that all applicants will only receive ONE acceptance letter! If you got a letter from your 2nd choice then you did not make the cut for your 1st choice. The only other letter you will receive is if you are on the alternate list for your 1st choice. Montgomery letters will "hopefully" be going out within the next couple of wks. Good luck to all of you that haven't gotten a letter yet!

A couple weeks!! I don't understand why Montgomery is so slow! NH has double the amount of applicant space and they still got word out first! They are going to make us suffer! Ahhhhhh! Did they mention what the was delay was!

Because they are waiting on the background checks before they send out their acceptance letters.

I will pray for you as well! I am sure they will give you the ok, it is your time to shine!!

I just found the FAST paperwork from my fingerprints... I turned it all in in Oct, not july. I looked up my name for nursing student on the bon website and it had four statements and 10/29/12 but I had no idea what they meant.

Montgomery is slow, period. You'll enjoy more than your share of slowness over the next couple of years, I promise.

They probably had some sort of hold up submitting acceptees names to the board.

This question is for Penguino.

I was reading over your post about your experience at NH. At Kingwood, they had a box with most of the textbooks needed for the program for the two years. It was around $500+ Does NH have the same or do you buy each book individually? Also, in the letter it said that classes start July 29th. Is that just for the clinical prep course (if you're not a CNA) or is that when all classes start, do you know? Thanks.:)

I accepted my spot at NH and received an email with more info in it and July 29th-August 16th I believe was just the course for non CNAS, clinical prep

Hi, I just found this page when I was looking for the information about LoneStar College nursing program.

I applied starting this fall, am waiting my acceptance letter. My first choice is Montgomery, and Tomball second.

my score is 11.68.

You’re correct, Kingwood has that box, yet I don’t recall anyone from NH buying a box of books, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. During the orientation last May, we were given a detailed list of books, which included name, author, edition, ISBN, etc. I want to say that all the books will cost somewhere between 800$ and 900$, or so it seemed. I went through Amazon and purchased them brand new since they were anywhere from 15%-30% off plus free shipping. I also shopped the publishers as they send out 20% off coupons and offered free shipping as well. In the end, I think I had to purchase a couple of items at the bookstore. The lab kit was like 100$ I believe, and you have to purchase that from the NH Bookstore, as each campus’ nursing lab kits are different.

When I went last summer, I was expecting a 3-week class, but they decided to do something different and condense the class into one week. So, a third of the nursing students went one week, then the next third went the next, etc. It was encouraged that all attend even current CNAs. They might be going back to everyone attending the full three weeks. Finally, we all had a week “off” before the fall semester, but we didn’t really because they gave us readings right away. If you’re looking for something to prepare for, then I would suggest the pharmaceutical math from the text Dosage Calculations, which is required for the program and I know that if you take Pharmacology at NH it is a required text. If you have your math down, and conversions memorized, then I would say after orientation, confirm that they are still using the Ackley text Nursing Diagnosis Handbook, as this will become The Bible, and it’s really abstract, but I recommend just reading the introduction and how to search for a nursing diagnosis (don’t try to memorize anything, you’ll frustrate yourself) because they will use this book A LOT. I would review/look over, some pharm basics, such as common antibiotics, NSAIDs and definitely the most common CV meds. You’ll have your drug guide at your clinical site, so don’t stress too much. Again, don’t try to memorize, just try to synthesize the information. Testing in nursing school is very different from pre-requisite classes.

Lastly, the first three weeks of nursing school is Monday through Friday because they front-load all of the labs, so that you have the necessary skills during Week 5 to go to your clinical site and be able to do certain tasks. Week 4 you will be oriented to your clinical site, and Week 4 also begins the actual lecture portion of the classes.

I know this is a lot, but at least you know now. Oh, and be sure to buy Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination by Silvestri 5th Ed. ISBN: 978-1437708257. I know I have recommended it previously but it wasn’t required that may have changed. I periodically read the chapters. If you want something to read this summer, I’d pick up a copy of this book and start reading it. (Grin)

Let me know if you need anymore information, but keep in mind they may change some things up, and sorry once again for the dissertation.

those of you that have accepted admission to NH are you taking pharmacology in summer at NH??
