Lone Star Kingwood 2010

Published

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to start a new thread for kingwood/cyfair applicants. This is the moment I have been waiting for for 2 years! :nurse: I will be turning in my application when I return from vacation next week. My score is at 11.489 as of yesterday! I took the Hesi....again....yesterday :D and will be going on vacation Mon. I don't think my score has gone in yet either.

Anyway...I'm hoping that my score will be good enough for this time around. What was everyone elses score? I think the cut off the last couple years has been 11.4.

I have created this thread because I know that this site has been extremely helpful for me! And I want to return the favor for whoever else is applying or working towards applying! Also, in order for us to chat or whatever else while we are waiting soooo long for a letter! :banghead:

If ANYONE has any questions...just ask and I will try the best of my ability to answer it. I know quite a bit about this program, so I'm sure I can help in some way! :heartbeat

Yes, I don't think that it would be fair either. It was a surprise for us and it wouldn't be fair for us if we told everyone what to expect. And yes, Cy-fair is a lot different. They do they're stuff different, so I wouldn't be able to speak for them anyway. Like girly said....If you're truly serious about this, then you shouldn't have a problem.

I didn't have to pay for my card. It was free....BUT I don't know how it is if you don't already have a card.

I decided to make a separate posts for those of us going to cyfair, so that once classes do start we can post on there and help each other out. It's under Texas Nurses and is title Lone Star Cyfair Spring 2010. I am really excited about orientation and can't wait to meet you guys at orientation. I know that we are all serious about becoming nurses. And we will all do have the abilities, drive, and determination to make it through. :loveya:

I agree with girly and Coulter...Just be prepared for nursing school and u will not have anything to worry about.. We need honest nurses because we are dealing with people lives. also the library card is free...it just must state nursing student. Did U guys/gals like ur pic...Mine was Ok...I never seem to take good pics lol, but it wasn't so bad neither...Also we are not tryin to be mean about the situation, but it def would not be fair.

Ugh my pic....no I don't like it, but it's an ID...lol. I guess all ID picture aren't good pics anyways. Although I was very happy with my ID pic at Montgomery.

I agree....we really do need honest nurses esp. in this field. Good Luck to you all.

I need to really start buying books....blah

I cant buy books now because I have to wait on my call...But mentally I'm so ready to buy them..I want to get everything out the way, but unfortunately I need a def. yes before I start spending that kind of money. Has anyone priced the books for the required ones? If so pls post the average price for all. Thanks! Just the total, not individual.

We really need to form a study group, but I only want people that are serious about getting through. I am getting older, although some may not think 26 is old, it is to me..I've wasted soooo much time...So if ur serious and interested in a study group let's get together and make it through. Wait!!!! let me get in 1st lol Hold that response...lol

I think we should get into a study group as well. I'm always up for that! lol I'm taking Micro right now and I out that out there so we could study and they all looked at me like I was crazy...lol Dunno why....I know a couple of them are taking other classes and working. It may be that they just don't have time...But I think its a great idea. Since I moved here in 05, I've tried to be friends with several people and they people I attract....are going in a completely different direction in their lives. So I chose not to be around those particular people. It's always good to here people that are as serious as I am. lol If that makes any sense at all!

About the books..they gave us a handout of approxiate costs. I don't know if you got one or not. I think it was like $900 or something for books. sheesh! And I know what ya mean about the money! lol Eventhough I know that background check with be just fine, I still need that blue card in the mail as my confirmation! lol

Hmm... well I know I am certaintly serious about becoming a nurse so I have no worries about any surprise. I knew I wanted to become a nurse after being a kindergarten teacher for 2 years when my son at 4 months old almost died from a rare autoimmune blood disorder that left us at Tx Childrens Hospital for months while he was undergoing chemotherapy. I am for real about being a nurse so bring it on!!!!!

Eeira... we should defintely exchange info or whatever so I can have somone that I kind of 'know' at orientation.

Does anyone know if all the books on the list are available at the Kingwood bookstore??? I tried looking at the online bookstore and it's saying the book lists aren't available. Maybe they aren't loaded yet but I need to start budgeting for everything. It is Christmas time and I do have 3 kids.... lol!!!! Oh and what kind of stethoscopes are y'all buying??? I think I'm gonna look at allheart.com and maybe get one engraved with my name. I've read on a few other threads that they "mysteriously grow legs and walk off" so maybe if my name is on it permanently that won't happen lol!

Coulter,

Where are you taking Micro? I'm taking it as a hybrid class at Fairbanks center on Saturdays. I would be fine with a study group I will definitely find the time! We should all try to help each other out as much as we can. Nursing school is not easy! Where did you move here from in '05? I've been in Spring about the same amount of time.

I'm taking Micro at Montgomery. IT SUCKS!! lol I love love love the class, BUT the teacher is determined to pile as much crap as she possibly can on you. Here it is, almost the end of the semester and we are thinking, well there's really nothing else that she can pile on us....WRONGO! It's just crazy. The teacher seemed like a fairly good one in the beginning and now, we (the class) have reminded her on several things that she needed to do...lol We are doing a PP presentation and she told us last the week before last that she would tell us what days we were going....yeah well someone asked her Fri. And she played like she was working on it, but it was CLEAR that she hadn't decided what the days were going to be yet. It just so happened that she put the names and days online Fri for us to see....ugh. whatev...I can go on forever....but I'm not.

lol....sorry had to vent a little....I moved here from Slidell, LA after Katrina. I'm pretty happy here.

The stethescope...I dunno which one I will buy yet. Probably a littman. My Grandmother-in-law get deals on a lot of med equipment...(retired nurse) and I will see if I can go through her...lol I need to save as much money as I can!!!! ONE DAY THOUGH....we probably will not have to worry as much about that!!!

Did anyone start buying any supplies yet...scrubs, lab jacket, stethoscope, etc...I'm waiting too, I can't waste money..I need the call first.

Coulter,

Sorry you're having a hard time with Micro! At least we're almost done though!

I moved here from New Orleans after Katrina. We lived in Gentilly near UNO and Dillard if you're familiar with that area.... It was a big change and I had a rough time adjusting at first but now that I've "made friends" with my neighbors and started to get out of the house more I'm happy here. I stay home with my kids all day so that got kinda boring...

I am soooo excited about starting school.... We have plenty to keep us busy til Jan. 19th (first day of class!!!!)
