  1. Hi Hi to all, I was accepted into the Cyfair Nursing program for Spring 2010. I am sure everyone is very busy with studies at the moment. I know we are Our professor mentioned to us today that it would be wise to buy a general care plan book (nursing diagnosis handbook). I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for good books. Any help would be most appreciated. thank you and good luck to everyone on their journeys, mandy :)
  2. The program is 5 semesters so I believe our estimated grad date is late July or early August of 2011. I received my orientation invitation in the mail a few days ago. I had no idea that orientation would be from 8am to 3pm. Wow, that's a long time. I was advised by a person in the program currently that if I wanted the morning sections, that I would need to arrive about an hour early to secure my spot (which means 7am :/ ick I am so not a morning person) because it is based upon first come, first receive. Apparently the morning slots are highly sought after. I have not quite decided whether I want to show up that early. Have you thought of what you might want to specialize in? Me personally, I really want to eventually get my CRNA. But, I guess we will see what fits best through clinicals. I love surgery, ER, trauma, and ICU floors the best. But I am always up for learning new things.
  3. Thangbom321 it can't hurt to add Kingwood as a secondary. It's what I did. Cyfair first pick and Kingwood second. I also live about 50 minutes from Kingwood without traffic, but I was determined to start nursing school right away and luckily Cyfair accepted me. Good luck...I wish you the best on your journey.
  4. I decided to make a separate posts for those of us going to cyfair, so that once classes do start we can post on there and help each other out. It's under Texas Nurses and is title Lone Star Cyfair Spring 2010. I am really excited about orientation and can't wait to meet you guys at orientation. I know that we are all serious about becoming nurses. And we will all do have the abilities, drive, and determination to make it through. :loveya:
  5. Hi everyone, I just wanted to create a post for those of us accepted to Lone Star cyfair Spring 2010 Nursing program. I figured this way we could help each other and share all the new information. I can't wait to meet everyone at orientation. I am really excited about orientation.
  6. bri and csc, have you guys decided if you will be taking the 9-11:30 section or the 12:30-3 section. Personally, I am leaning towards morning section because the afternoon Friday class runs to 4:30 in the afternoon, which makes it insanely hard for me to get to work. I did some of my own calculations for estimated cost and this is what I came up with...IN DISTRICT: tuition for the 6 hours will be $396, lab fees will be $199, other school fees will be $78, totaling $583...OUT OF DISTRICT: tuition for the 6 hours will be $726, lab fees same, other school fees same, totaling $1003. Books at the bookstore will run about $500 for used so I highly recommend trying half.com or other textbook selling sites or definitely try Text Xpress if you haven't before...they saved me $127 last semester alone. Don't forget health insurance, which is required. And I don't know how much uniforms etc are yet. Prices change each semester supposedly. I got those figures straight out of the Spring 2010 Class Schedule book, so I think they are highly accurate. And personally, I always choose the payment plan. It helps me out a lot since I normally take 18+ hours. O btw, these are for Cyfair, not sure if it changes for the other schools. Hope this helped some. :) Thank you for the response about the receipt. The woman I spoke to at the fingerprinting place told me as well that they were sent directly to the board of nursing. Has anyone heard about when we submit our other shot records? I am currently awaiting a response back from the school. I know we submit the Hep B info before Nov 15th, but what about the rest? Any ideas or has anyone heard any information?
  7. to bri630 and cschoppe...I have also been dead-ended with the information from emails from cyfair. They just really do not answer the questions you ask. But, I have talked to some people in the program who said they have a person usually come at a scheduled time for the drug test. I had hoped to be able to choose classes around Nov 9th-ish since that is when a person can register for Spring 2010 classes and I was planning on taking 2 other classes besides the nursing ones. But, this doesn't seem to bode well. Oh well, guess I might be stuck with online classes (not my favorite) for those other two classes. I love to have a plan set out for school and is it just me or does planning for the next semester in Jan during Dec seem a little hurried. I really wanted to get the textbooks early so I could look through them before the first day of class. LOL I feel blocked from trying to get a jump start at every turn . I look forward to meeting you guys at orientation in December. I'm getting my BLS for Healthcare Providers from American Heart Association Nov 11th...it's only 6 miles from me the rest of the locations were so far away. And (exciting) the class is only 2.5 hours long Currently, I am concerned about the fingerprinting time frame :/ I am scheduled to go in this Thursday at 1pm, but on their website it states that it takes 30 days for results to come back. However, if I read it correctly the nursing program wanted this turned in by Nov 15th. Has anyone done the fingerprint background check and know if they give you the information right away?
  8. I have a question for anyone who got accepted to Cyfair. Did anyone receive any information about the drug testing? I received the form for the fingerprint/FBI criminal background check, but nowhere does it mention anything about the drug test. I was wondering if I was missing a form or if everyone else was in the same boat? Thanks for the help
  9. Woohoo got my letter....I'M IN...I'M IN...YAY. I am soooooo happy at this moment. About the Hep B shots, I talked to a woman in the office at Cyfair and she told me they want most people finished by that date, but I told her I can not get my 3rd dose until December 27th and she said no problem. Just to have the shots completed by first day of class. Congrats to everyone for all the hard work and finally making it! We did it!!!! :yeah::loveya: 1. Cschoppe 11.49 cyfair 2. Coultr630 11.49 3. LJ2010 11.5744 Kingwood 4. Camemile 11.6596 Kingwood 5. eeeira 11.7448 Cyfair Alternates: 1. CMA44 11.3596 2. DeniseRN2B 11.40044 please quote and add on if you made it.
  10. I have not received my letter yet and my first choice was Cyfair. I don't even live far from the school and it said they went out on the 14th. I thought I had a good score at 11.74, but now I'm worried with other people receiving their letters already. Grrr....and I thought the waiting was bad. This is just pure torture and agony now. Anyways...Congrats to all those who got accepted and fingers crossed for those of us still waiting.
  11. OMG...I am so tired of waiting. It has been over a month and still nothing. I feel this is definitely the hardest part...waiting. I had hoped when I had heard that we should know by Oct 15 that meant by then....like we would have already received it. Oh well, I really wish the letters will come soon so I can figure out a plan B should I not get in. I think I have a competitive score and hope it holds true though it seems recently that my luck is horrible. I wish everyone the best for the future. P.S. If anyone should get a letter please post so the others know it's on the way. Good Luck to all!!!
  12. When I log-in, I do not have that message. However, when I turned in the paper copies to Cyfair, they gave me a receipt for the paperwork and said I was done. All I had left to do was wait...arguably the most frustrating part imo. Maybe it is different at Kingwood vs. Cyfair, but Cyfair said all the item they needed were paper copies signed, nothing had to be submitted online. All I know is what the Cyfair nursing office has told me. Good luck to everyone. :)
  13. You take what you made on the reading part of the Hesi and divide by 25. Add that to you average GPA from Eng 1301, Psyc 2301, and Anat 1 or Anat 2 (whichever is higher). Then add in your points you received for your co-requisite classes. The number you get should be on a scale up to 12...12 being perfect. Both the application and the score sheet have to be signed and turned in by 4pm on 9/15 to Cyfair. Also, when I went and turned in my application they made me print out my program evaluation. You might want to print that before you turn in your application if you are planning on turning it in on the 15th. Might save you some time. Myrecords is down at the moment but tomorrow I can post the exact tab where you can print out that information unless someone else remembers what it is called. They needed it because they wanted to go over with everyone what they had left, I think specifically concerning Cyfair's Pharm policy. Hope this helps! :)
  14. I'm hoping for earlier October for response, but at the least we are down to 42 days which still seems like a lifetime away.
  15. Congrats LJ2010 on your great score!!! All your hard work paid off :wink2: Good luck on entrance to the program and good luck to everyone applying for entrance to Lone Star 2010 program. I hope we all make it
