I just wanted to start a new thread for kingwood/cyfair applicants. This is the moment I have been waiting for for 2 years! I will be turning in my application when I return from vacation next week. My score is at 11.489 as of yesterday! I took the Hesi....again....yesterday and will be going on vacation Mon. I don't think my score has gone in yet either.
Anyway...I'm hoping that my score will be good enough for this time around. What was everyone elses score? I think the cut off the last couple years has been 11.4.
I have created this thread because I know that this site has been extremely helpful for me! And I want to return the favor for whoever else is applying or working towards applying! Also, in order for us to chat or whatever else while we are waiting soooo long for a letter!
If ANYONE has any questions...just ask and I will try the best of my ability to answer it. I know quite a bit about this program, so I'm sure I can help in some way! :heartbeat
Yes, Eboni I got in. And about the 2 A's in your pre reqs....unless your planning on scoring a 100% on your HESI, then no need to retake the one that you don't have an A in. BUT, I'm telling you right now....I had 4.0 in pre reqs, my 4 points in credits classes, and scored I think an 87 on reading part of the HESI and managed to sqeeze in. However, there are some people on this thread that had just a couple 10ths of points away and did not make it right in and are alternates. So I would really try and get as close to the 4 points as possible. The HESI is not a piece of cake. It can seem tricky and it's easy to over-analyze so take that into consideration. I'm on your side. I would not stear you in the wrong direction.[Hmmmm well first off congrats to you!:)) But it just seems like I've been in school forever and Im trying to be able to apply to more than one school..dont want to put my eggs all in one basket so to say.and i know their different but ive took the NET test and did excellent on it so hopefully it will be like that for the Hesi.But im just nervous cause I just learned about this program and their 3 requirements and just so happen I'm lacking an A but I have all the extra credits.]
I'm with you on the lack of information and rudeness of whoever is writing back to emails. I did not get any info on drug testing. I have convinced myself that anything I did not get info on, they will tell us about at orientation. Maybe they will offer physicals for everyone on a certain day or drug test us all at the same time. I emailed them about orientation and they replied that it was Thursday December 3rd. I haven't heard anything about the 8th? I also asked about the schedule and they were useless. But it seems like there is a morning option and early afternoon. We don't have clinicals the first semester. The lady did reply that we would find out our schedules at orientation. Wonderful :) I'm just such a planner, I like to have things all planned out way in advance so this waiting to find out my schedule thing is kinda annoying. Cschoppe, what part of town are you from? I think you and me and 1 other person are the only ones from Cyfair on here :) I signed up to do my CPR on December 5th at Kingwood bc every other sat until then, my son has soccer games. Well I have just chopped it up to how happy I would be if I had to answer a million emails all asking the same questions and I probably wouldn't be that happy about it. I'm from the Katy area and I have a 3 year old son. I see myself staying up late at night to study because God knows you can't do anything that requires concentration while they are awake! I'm doing my background check on Friday. Can't wait to get started on classes. I'm hoping they give us syllabi for our classes at orientation so maybe I can get started on reading. I'm so anxious to get started but I know it's going to be crazy busy once It starts.

Well that's good thinking! I know how you feel girl, I feel like I been in school forever too! I know for me, I had a part time job in the beginning and a baby (now 3 1/2 years old), so I wasn't able to take as many classes as I would've liked b/c its pretty tough finding the time and such for your children/hisband/and school! Not enough time in the day!!! I try and split it up as much as I can though.
to bri630 and cschoppe...I have also been dead-ended with the information from emails from cyfair. They just really do not answer the questions you ask. But, I have talked to some people in the program who said they have a person usually come at a scheduled time for the drug test. I had hoped to be able to choose classes around Nov 9th-ish since that is when a person can register for Spring 2010 classes and I was planning on taking 2 other classes besides the nursing ones. But, this doesn't seem to bode well. Oh well, guess I might be stuck with online classes (not my favorite) for those other two classes. I love to have a plan set out for school and is it just me or does planning for the next semester in Jan during Dec seem a little hurried. I really wanted to get the textbooks early so I could look through them before the first day of class. LOL I feel blocked from trying to get a jump start at every turn . I look forward to meeting you guys at orientation in December.
I'm getting my BLS for Healthcare Providers from American Heart Association Nov 11th...it's only 6 miles from me the rest of the locations were so far away. And (exciting) the class is only 2.5 hours long
Currently, I am concerned about the fingerprinting time frame :/ I am scheduled to go in this Thursday at 1pm, but on their website it states that it takes 30 days for results to come back. However, if I read it correctly the nursing program wanted this turned in by Nov 15th. Has anyone done the fingerprint background check and know if they give you the information right away?
I'm doing mine on Friday because their scanner was broken last week. I would think you would get some kind of preliminary report back. I guess ask when you are there and try to email Cyfair :/ clearly if it takes that long I'm sure alot of people won't have it completed. I just wish we had someone we could talk to to get answers or they would email everyone FAQs or something.
When I went to go get my background check done yesterday they gave me a reciept and I asked them about when I would get the results back and they said that they send the results directly the desired program (i guess the nursing board or whatever)... and so I called the nursing office b/c in the letter it said it wanted a copy of the results by the 15th... and the lady on the phone (Donna) said that you just need to send the reciept they give you. So I will just send the piece of paper they gave me. I too wish that we would get some info about classes sooner, it seems like they are making it to where everything will hit us all at once including financial burdens... right around xmas time too... I want to get things little by little or at least know about how much things are going to cost. Anyone have any idea about when we pay for our tuition and about how much its going to cost????

Are you going to the orientation at Kingwood on the 11th? And are you days/evenings at Kingwood? I'm going on the 11th and I requested evenings with Sat clinical. I'm excited and really nervous all at once!
bri and csc, have you guys decided if you will be taking the 9-11:30 section or the 12:30-3 section. Personally, I am leaning towards morning section because the afternoon Friday class runs to 4:30 in the afternoon, which makes it insanely hard for me to get to work.
I did some of my own calculations for estimated cost and this is what I came up with...IN DISTRICT: tuition for the 6 hours will be $396, lab fees will be $199, other school fees will be $78, totaling $583...OUT OF DISTRICT: tuition for the 6 hours will be $726, lab fees same, other school fees same, totaling $1003. Books at the bookstore will run about $500 for used so I highly recommend trying half.com or other textbook selling sites or definitely try Text Xpress if you haven't before...they saved me $127 last semester alone. Don't forget health insurance, which is required. And I don't know how much uniforms etc are yet. Prices change each semester supposedly. I got those figures straight out of the Spring 2010 Class Schedule book, so I think they are highly accurate. And personally, I always choose the payment plan. It helps me out a lot since I normally take 18+ hours. O btw, these are for Cyfair, not sure if it changes for the other schools. Hope this helped some. :)
Thank you for the response about the receipt. The woman I spoke to at the fingerprinting place told me as well that they were sent directly to the board of nursing. Has anyone heard about when we submit our other shot records? I am currently awaiting a response back from the school. I know we submit the Hep B info before Nov 15th, but what about the rest? Any ideas or has anyone heard any information?
Thanks for the info on tuition costs, very helpful :) I am leaning towards the morning section also b/c that way I can get it out of the way and do any other studying afterwards before I pick my kids up from pre-school. I am not going to be working while I'm doing this (well I am the full-time mommy for an 18month old and a 5 yr old so thats a job in itself)...
The lady on the phone told me that by the 15th we should have the records released form signed, the background check reciept, the letter for intent to enroll, and hep B records... she said something about personally handing them in, anyone else heard the same?
