Lone Star Kingwood 2010

Published

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to start a new thread for kingwood/cyfair applicants. This is the moment I have been waiting for for 2 years! :nurse: I will be turning in my application when I return from vacation next week. My score is at 11.489 as of yesterday! I took the Hesi....again....yesterday :D and will be going on vacation Mon. I don't think my score has gone in yet either.

Anyway...I'm hoping that my score will be good enough for this time around. What was everyone elses score? I think the cut off the last couple years has been 11.4.

I have created this thread because I know that this site has been extremely helpful for me! And I want to return the favor for whoever else is applying or working towards applying! Also, in order for us to chat or whatever else while we are waiting soooo long for a letter! :banghead:

If ANYONE has any questions...just ask and I will try the best of my ability to answer it. I know quite a bit about this program, so I'm sure I can help in some way! :heartbeat

I think I'm addicted to this forum. lol..I check it everyday almost all day...I know at least 5x at work or at home lol Imma try not to look for a couple of days....Don't think I'll survive lol I'm just so anxious to get in!!:yeah:

U r not the only one denise I check it quite a bit too, lol:specs: I'm on the alternate list. I'm happy it wasn't a denial letter, but I'm so anxious to know if I'm gettin in. I can't say it enough of how much I wanna be a NURSE. This is it:yeah:Lord grant me/us patience!!!:sofahider

Well I'm glad I started a thread that is so helpful for all of you. Yall are going to get in! Anyone else request Mon/Tues lecture day and Wed clinicals?

Oh and question....does anyone know if we had to print out a receipt for the drug test, cause I didn't. I'm sure I still have a confirmation email though. I just wanna make sure that we're not going to need it at orientation or anything....

If I were u, I would print it just in case. I printed mine...it's also in your email. I'm bringing everything I have ready to orientation lol.. I want them to be like..oh yeah she is very prepared lol so I can get in..lol

Ok, so my acceptance letter for cy-fair did not include anything about a drug test, it only had a paper for the criminal background check. Is there something that I'm missing? I signed up for my CPR class.... a 9 hour course this sat!!! I'm getting my fingerprints done on Tuesday and I think cyfair wants the results w/ it, but last time I got them done w/ this same company they didn't give me results right then and there, just a reciept. Hmm... and anyone else going to cyfair know about if we need our physical now or wait until class starts? I guess I need to call up there again, they're prolley going to start screening their phone calls b/c of me lol. I called to ask about a rough idea of the schedule for the program and they wouldn't really tell me much, they said I'd have to wait until orientation...which brings me to another question b/c the lady on the phone said dec. 8th but my letter said WEDNESDAY dec. 3rd (which isnt even a wed)...so whats the date? All I know is that classes start on Jan. 19th! Woot Woot... I'm so anxious!

Any fellow future cy-fair-ians out there please help me w/ some of these questions lol...

I think Cy-fair and kingwood are a little different as far as the letters go. We (Kingwood), at least me, just got the letter, intent to enroll, hmm, drug test info., and a form that needed to be signed in order for them to recieve any type of transcript, records, etc. that they may need. Basically a release. Nothing about a background check was in there, although, I know we are going to need one. I know that these letters both Kingwood and Cy-fair were messed up. I called about the schedule b/c they were offering clinical on the same day as lecture and I wondered how that would work. Anyways....the point is, I'm sure a lot of people are calling in regards to the letters. All I know is that I want orientation to hurry and get here so I will know what I need to do!!! lol ugh I need to take cpr too.

I'm with you on the lack of information and rudeness of whoever is writing back to emails. I did not get any info on drug testing. I have convinced myself that anything I did not get info on, they will tell us about at orientation. Maybe they will offer physicals for everyone on a certain day or drug test us all at the same time. I emailed them about orientation and they replied that it was Thursday December 3rd. I haven't heard anything about the 8th? I also asked about the schedule and they were useless. But it seems like there is a morning option and early afternoon. We don't have clinicals the first semester. The lady did reply that we would find out our schedules at orientation. Wonderful :) I'm just such a planner, I like to have things all planned out way in advance so this waiting to find out my schedule thing is kinda annoying. Cschoppe, what part of town are you from? I think you and me and 1 other person are the only ones from Cyfair on here :) I signed up to do my CPR on December 5th at Kingwood bc every other sat until then, my son has soccer games. Well I look forward to meeting you face to face at orientation! Good luck to all those on waiting lists!

My letter was terrible too. I had to clarify my orientation date with valerie..On my letter it said orientation was Nov. 11th and Nov.21st of 2010 and since I'm an alternate I didn't know what to believe. So I'm like 2010, thats next year lol and she told me it was a typo and it was 2009. Also the lecture days were messed up 2 like Coulter said. I don't think it's a disorganized program, I just think whoever that was typing the letters had a rough day or somethin. I hear way too many positive things about the lonestar system, so I refuse to think negative.

Yes, no need to think negative! It will be what you make of it! The program wouldn't exist if they didn't know what they were doing! lol Everyone makes mistakes.

I'm taking my cpr class Wed. It's a 6 - 9pm. I heard of people taking it all day...yikes. I hope that this will be a good class, but even 8 hrs seems like a lot to be studying cpr. I've taken it before but that was in 2006 and I really need to brush up on it, so I'm not going to refresh; just gonna do the whole thing! Anyways, there's not a certain place that we need to take it as long as its the BLS for healthcare providers and Americal heart approved right?

Yes, Eboni I got in. And about the 2 A's in your pre reqs....unless your planning on scoring a 100% on your HESI, then no need to retake the one that you don't have an A in. BUT, I'm telling you right now....I had 4.0 in pre reqs, my 4 points in credits classes, and scored I think an 87 on reading part of the HESI and managed to sqeeze in. However, there are some people on this thread that had just a couple 10ths of points away and did not make it right in and are alternates. So I would really try and get as close to the 4 points as possible. The HESI is not a piece of cake. It can seem tricky and it's easy to over-analyze so take that into consideration. I'm on your side. I would not stear you in the wrong direction.
