Hi! I am a registered nurse currently working in a NICU in Arkansas. My husband and I are moving to Seattle, Wa in August and finishing BSN school in July. I have over $60,000 in student loans and am trying desperately to find a program that offers loan repayment. I have looked into the HRSA nurse corps repayment as an option, but have been told that since the funding has been cut that they were only able to award like three people last year out of thousands of applicants. My husband thinks at this point I should join the army (lol) and work out a deal with them which I am almost considering! I am planning to do the 10 year government loan forgiveness program, but even doing that my payment will still be $800. I don't see how we can afford to start a family with payments so high. Any ideas for loan repayment plans or contracts at hospitals in the Seattle area or programs in general are appreciated! Thanks.
As did I. You said what I held back from saying for fear of being perceived as rude.Quote from applewhiternPersonally, I don't like the notion that the gov't will somehow bail out or forgive loans, because that comes from taxpayer's pockets. I paid for both of my degrees; why should I have to pay for other's poor choices?
I seriously don't get how a hospital offering a contract to me or some other organization offering student loan forgiveness makes YOU "pay for my 'poor choices'"? As I said before, what is the poor choice here? Getting a higher education with student loans because my parents couldn't afford to pay my school for me, and I couldn't afford to pay for school at the time with my full time jobs? I don't see that as a poor choice, I see that as something I had to do at the time to better myself, and now I am paying for it--literally. I am not asking for any kind of bail out, but rather help in lowering my payments in exchange for me to utilize the skills I have learned while taking out these loans.
Nice try, but there is actually expected to be a glut of nurses until 2020 and beyond.
Also, I think you sorely need to look up what a troll is. I don't see anyone trolling but you, right now.
Second, what was your original plan for paying for your loan? Certainly, you checked into that.
Um, this might surprise you, but my original plan for paying my loan was (and still is) to pay my loan. However, the payments are high. Did I know they would be high? Well sure, I did.
I also know that student loan repayment options exist for people like me who had to utilize student loans, and that is what i am looking for. What I am not looking for is judgement from someone on the Internet, especially someone who does not even live in or near Seattle. I also never asked for someone to "cover" my loan amount. I am simply looking into repayment/forgiveness options. If you have nothing useful to offer, then please do not comment back. Your comment was absolutely unhelpful.
I know you did not just talk about my choice in having children when you want me (the tax payer) to pay your student loans. You have 0 room to talk about anyone in these situations. I used my resources. YOU are not. You want us to pay for your college.
I already said I used my resources by talking to my loan company and getting in a plan that I can work with. Reading comprehension. I think that's what's lacking here. You're so busy being so pissed off nobody wants to pay your loans you're not reading our replies.
Please quote me where I asked for you (the taxpayer) to repay my student loans. Reading comprehension. That's a fragment.

You want fries with that?

Are you really a nurse? Based off the comments and you just ranting for over an hour. I am questioning if you have a license. I have met some entitled nurses but not to the extent I've seen here.
Thanks so much for the comment, but I have researched the cost of living for the Seattle area, and wouldn't you know, right outside of Seattle the cost of living is SIGNIFICANTLY lower than in Seattle itself (links included below). These refer mostly to the cost of living in general, however, we have also looked into the cost for commute. Our cost to commute from right outside Seattle is also significantly lower than our cost for housing in Seattle. Can't wait to visit the troll, are you always there?Cost of Living Comparison: compare Little Rock, Arkansas to Seattle, Washington
Cost of Living Comparison: compare Little Rock, Arkansas to Bremerton, Washington
OK now I'm going to explain a little geography.
Bremerton is NOT just right outside of Seattle. It's a 1.5 hour drive of approximately 65 miles including a toll (not troll) bridge that you pay $5.50 to cross. Assuming your SUV gets 30mpg, Costco gas $2.45/gal = $5.35. That's $11 one way. Work 3 days/week, 4weeks/month = $264
But Bremerton is a mere 17 miles away? Yeah. By FERRY. Approximately 1 hour transit assuming it leaves on time. Fare for driver and vehicle $21.40 one way. $513 / month
Working Hospital Hill? Parking ain't free. $200 - $300/ month
Many posters have been offering some very useful suggestions but you choose to ignore rather than thank them. Several other posters have noted the folly of your decision to move to place where you do not have a job, do not understand the expenses you are taking on and hoping for some employer to bail you out (loan forgiveness) for the privilege of hiring you.

Personally, I would like to know what poor choices you think I made? Oh wait, I don't. But if it was using student loans to obtain a higher education, then sue me. But don't. I am using all my money on my student loans.
