Heres a few of my details I am a RN qualified in 1997, working and living in the north of england. Have worked in many areas including acute medical, ortho, ICU/HDU now work on a ENT unit. Work perminant nights now, because it gives me more tome at home also i love night working:p i know a lot of nurses find this strange but it suits me.

I am married with two children who, despite their age still dive me mad at times.

Just started along the long path of going to the US, just started sudying for NCLEX:eek: Filling in the endless forms (feels like work).

Go on let everyone know some info about yourselves, i'm sure i am not the only one who is curious.:D

It is so interesting to really meet everyone. What is also interesting is there has only been one response from the US so far. Perhaps this type of thread ran prior to our time with Allnurses.

I graduated from Queen Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in 1967 in Montreal Canada. I am married and have 2 boys and a girl, ages 26, 25, 19. I am a grandmother of one. I have worked all my life (except maternity leave for 3 months each) My experience ranges from Peds, L&D, M/S, MH, LTC, ICCU/CCU, ER, Home Health, and now Prison nurse in the US. I enjoy those "Shop 'til you drop" trips with my daughter, or anyone who I can snag to come along, also sewing, and reading.

I am going to take courses online to work on my ADN, BSN then maybe my masters then hopefully my back will be corrected and I can go get my RN lisence. My husband is also going to go back to school in Jan. I sell Avon, am a Girl Scout Leader (put a hold on that until my back gets better) , work per-diem in HHC, and everything else. Angie

Specializes in Oncology, ID, Hepatology, Occy Health.

Trained in Plymouth.

Promptly moved to London. Worked in several hospitals as staff nurse and charge nurse, and in several specialities (mostly medicine and ID) and pretty much did the rounds during periods of agency nursing (someone should do a poll of London hospital experiences??!!). Last UK job was as a clinical nurse specialist at Chelsea and Westminster. Great job.

Have now lived in France nearly 4 years and highly recommend it. Briefly returned to UK for family reasons end of 2002 and did agency in the north-west (Bolton, Rochdale, MRI), an experience which put the nail in the UK coffin for me. Don't think I would ever want to experience the NHS again.

Sad, as it used to work really well.

Now back nursing and work in occy health in Paris, after having left nursing for a couple of years to teach English.

Specializes in NICU and neonatal transport.

Newly qualified kids nurse, trained at uni of central lancs in Preston. Currently doing a neonatal year course - not a qualification but fab experience, loving every minute. Workin between little Wigan hospital NNU and Huge Liverpool womens NICU. Caring for a 23 weeker currently which is fab...thses people actually trust me :uhoh3:

Hi there,

Be as nosy as you like!!

I chose France as I have always been attracted by the language and culture (especially the food and wine). The US doesn't attract me at all, having visited four times, and I'm frankly not that interested in the other English speaking countries (with the exception of Ireland possibly). My reasons for coming here were personal rather than professional. Principally I wanted to get my French to fluency, and to experience life on mainland Europe, which is certainly different.

This is my first occy health job! In France it's still very much like the UK used to be before you needed the appropriate ENB course to pass wind. You can go to any new speciality and learn on the job (without dropping your pay). I work with an OH nurse of 20 years experience who's been very helpful to me, and we have two OH doctors who come to do sessions who've also been very helpful. I'm getting sent on some training in ergonomics in the New Year and I don't feel I've been left in situations for which I've been unprepared.

If you fancy France my advice is go for it. I've never regretted it. If you're a UK registered RGN they'll give you the French equivalent (IDE) without any further training, but you absolutely must speak French. A certificate in French proficiency like the DELF (Diplôme d'Etudes en Langue Française) is a distinct advantage.

hi, I trained a long time ago in south wales, had my own business for quite a while and returned to nursing, eventually did a conversion course in 1999 in dumfries, as I had moved back to scotland. sat my n-clex in june 2003 and came to the sunny united states virgin islands on july 1st. am now working in a surgical ward, although we have telemtry beds and take every patient from the operating room regardless of the surgery, as there is no gynae or ortho wards here. I look at all the messages contained in these threads, and always look in the uk. the travel section is for those of you who want to come to the usa, as that is what we are called here....travellers. about to experience xmas in 80+ degree heat.
