Okay, y'all. In spite of what some people will say, your use of language will influence what people think of you, and how intelligent and/or competent they think you are.

My current number one: You don't LOOSE your license, you lose it. (If your license is loose, you need to capture it...)

Don't even get me started on loosing YOU'RE license...

What are other some other linguistic "nails on chalkboard" for folks?

Great. Now I have that song stuck in my head. And yeah, none of those has any element of irony at all.

Now, you having the song stuck in your head is ironic...

My peeve isn't likely to come up at work but it really bothers me to hear people mispronounce realtor.

It's real-tor NOT real-LA-tor.

That's nothing compared to some of the other things they're called.

I "use to be" in that biz. :wacky:

They're probably trying to pass for Canadian, which, let's face it, is cooler than being American... :smokin:

Canadians ARE Americans.......

People can't spell "too" and "to"! They are not interchangeable! I get if English isn't your first language or if you dropped out of school in 7th grade but wth is it with the COLLEGE graduates still doing this?! Aarghhh....

Spell check said it was OK! :wacky:

Like...this thread is like so random. Like, I mean, literally the most awesome posts. Like, totally.

:arghh::cheeky:

Severe overuse and misuse of the above. Everything is so awesome that even the most awesome things aren't awesome anymore lol.

My contribution is when people say they were "appaulled."

I hate it when people write "I would of done that if I could of." instead of "I would have done that if I could have."

I know a lot of us drop the H when we speak, but 'of' is not 'have'.

I would of if I could of but I couldn't so I didn't.

Not in England! We feel the same when you use oriented. We say "it's not oriented, it's orientated!"
That would drive me nuts.

People who use the possessive to make a plural, e.g., hot dog's, flower's, etc., etc.. No, just no. I see that all the time here in the south, too, and it makes me INSANE.
