Licensure requirements for CA for foreign grad

Published

I just graduated from a nursing school in the phils. I wasn't able to take the local board bec. my immigrant visa was about to expire.I was lucky that i was able to finish my course there. My question is do you really have to be a local board passer so you will be eligible to take the CA NCLEX here?I mean even as an immigrant? And for all those foreign grads how long did it take for your application for licensure to be processed?:uhoh3: just wondering....

hi there! can i ask what was ur letter of explanation then? thanks.. i took the board but i couldnt wait for my card license to be issued coz that would take about 3 months.. i was planning on just writing an explanation. Did u send a copy of ur diploma for ur application? thanks a lot!! so, when are u planning to take the exam? where will u have ur review? gracias!!

Hi thanks for the PM.. really appreciate it!! i already mailed my application to my sis in CA who will pay for it, i just wrote an explanation why i dont have my license yet. i'm hoping things would go well!!

No matter where you wish to work in the US, you are applying for licensure as an RN; you do not apply to take the NCLEX exam. That is only one step in the licensing process.

CA does not require any extra items from CGFNS, NY requires the CVS be completed and that is taking about 8 months to complete. The issue is where you want to work, not which is fastest.

If you truly want to work in NY, you will still need to go thru the CVS process to endorse. Remember that when taking the NCLEX exam for CA, you will not be issued a license when you pass that exam, and therefore cannot use that for endorsement to another state. You will need to go thru the License by Examination process again and have CA BRN submit your passing results to the new state.

Hi.. i've finally decided to apply for licensure in CA. I have taken the local nursing board exam and still waiting for the result. Would it matter to my application if (God forbids) i failed in the exam? I just mailed them an explanation letter that i'm still waiting for the result and i would inform them whatever my result would be..

hi to all the SuperModerators on this thread.. :thankya: i have read the primers on top of this thread..May I ask (to all who posts in this thread) how did you go about in preparing your requirements to be passed to CABON?..:typing

(1)Like with the Transcripts with RLE and Diploma, is it really certified true copy or the original copy with the school seal?.. :innerconf

(2)and is the Nursing Program Verification Form really included as one of the requirements?..[or it does not apply to all applicants] :smackingf

(3)May I please have a copy of the written explanation you sent to CABON, so I may have a guide in writing? ??? [PLEASE post it with your message] :sniff: :crying2:

(4) For the confirmation card, where can I get the First Class U.S. Postage Stamp? :uhoh21:

(5) For the fingerprint card, I have the Aliases and the Social Security No. blank, which is more appropriate for me to write, NONE or NOT APPLICABLE(N/A)?..And with the race, since only one letter fits the small box, what information should I print? [i am from the Philippines, by the way.]

(6)And lastly, how did you deal with the bank draft?..What steps did you take?..

Thanks! ;D

There are several listings as far as race, etc. on that application, and I believe that you will see one that says Asian-Pacific. That is the one that you use.

Nursing program verification is what the school submits to the BRN with the breakdown of your hours.

Write NONE, you do not have any. For alias and other names used.

Bank draft can be obtained from any bank that issues money orders in US dollars. All of the large US banks are in PI as well. Just make sure that it is payable in US dollars.

You can submit the application to them, but they will not give you permission to sit for the NCLEX exam until you can provide them with the passing results of your exam.

And look at it from the other side, if a nurse is unable to pass the licensing exam in their own country, why would you want them to work here before passing that. The NLE is not required for licensure to work in the US. The issue is that you wrote that exam, and therefore will need to present a passing score before you can test, and even get a Visa Screen Certificate for the visa processing.

oh i see.. thanks suzanne! i'll have to wait for the results then and i'll just have to keep my fingers crossed..

NCLEX is the same regardless of state that you are applying for licensure. I am not sure on the board of examiners that you are going to so unable to comment to whether you will be able to sit the exam in November

h suzanne, how long does it take for the CA BON to issue elibility? some say 3 months and the others say 6 months. And a staff from Kaplan review center told us that it is a wrong notion that CA will take 6 months, she said its one of the states fast or quick when issuing eligibility..am worried coz just mailed my application and well enrolled also in kaplan (3months to review). i kinda want to take the exam as soon by e time i end my review..any fast way to process it? thank you...
