Licensure requirements for CA for foreign grad

World Immigration

Published

I just graduated from a nursing school in the phils. I wasn't able to take the local board bec. my immigrant visa was about to expire.I was lucky that i was able to finish my course there. My question is do you really have to be a local board passer so you will be eligible to take the CA NCLEX here?I mean even as an immigrant? And for all those foreign grads how long did it take for your application for licensure to be processed?:uhoh3: just wondering....

I see...so in case the time period is over, then I finally obtained my vsc then my ssn#, then I get my license after completing the renewal form right?

>Are the requirments and fees for re-application posted on the CA BON website?

>As for continuing education in case there is a lapse of 2 years, may that be obtained in your local country with in those years before the validity is gone?

Oki tnx suzanne, ppl have bombarded me with different views and news nowadays...it's really confusing me...

I heared from a source that someone who was a june passer obtained a VSC certificate-is that possible???

Not sure why you are even concerning yourself with continuing education for CA when there is no license issued to even renew. You still will never get a license number until you are in the US and have applied for and received a SSN#. When you are in the US and have a SSN#, if it is over three years, then you need to reapply to CA, just like you did initially, the same applciation and the same fee. You are not going to see a separate fee listed or a different applicaiton, it is one and the same.

You can listen to all of the other sources that you want, I still stick by everything that I have stated about that exam, and I am not discussing it any further here. It is not related to the topic at hand, is it?

Sorry, but you cannot apply for a SSN# until you have a visa that permits you to work and you are in the US. You will not be able to get any type of SSN#...................there is no one to approach as you do not need to pay taxes until you are in the US.

Thanks for your reply, Suzanne! You mentioned in another thread, that if after 3 years, I still cannot give an SSN to CA Board of Reg. Nsg., we can renew our application and pay the fees. What kind of application forms do I fill out? Are these the same forms I submitted when I applied to CA so I can sit for the NCLEX? Do I need another fingerprint card? Do I have to ask my school again to send them my transcripts?

If I passed NCLEX, I do not have to take it again, right? At least not for 10 years, you said?

Just a precautionary measure in case the issue about the vsc not being issued to june 06 passers will take a while before it is resolved. but anyway I'll apply for ca since matter have been cleared up in this forum.

thnx

Again, where are you going to be working..........???? No one can apply directly for the NCLEX exam, it is only part of the licensing procedure, it is far from being the only step.

What ever the requirements are of the state for licensure, are more than likely going to be the same if you need to endorse to the second state.

Take the time and read what we are telling you.........please.

You are in the US right now? And in California? Then you just go and have a Live Scan done..........much faster and quicker and no cards to worry about. They are done by the DOJ, Dept of Justice, and can be found all over the state.

Please check out the forum. Suggest read the sticky Primer to working in the US near the top of this forum. Currently no visas and is definately NOT recommended to use the tourist visa with hope to change your status much better to go through the process from the Phillipines by applying to BON, sit and pass NCLEX and language exams and obtain VCS. A lot of employers at the moment are not employing foreign nurses due to not knowing what is happening with visas and when retrogression will lift

Hello! Are there still chances that after taking the CA NCLEX exam and IELTS, one could be petitioned to work in the US without taking CGFNS exam and without having the SS#? HOw can one be petitioned without SS# and license? Which is easier to process for NCLEX, NY or CA BRN?

Unless the state requires if there is no need to take the CGFNS exam. No reason why you can not be petitioned once you have passed relevant exams, more likely to find an employer once you have passed them. Very easy to be petitioned without SSN and license (states that require SSN usually issue letter stating meet requirements and will issue license once in the US and have a valid work permit and SSN issued). It all depends on where you want to live to which is easier ie if you go NY route and do CVS but then want to endorse to AZ they require CES which you have to get done before they will process your application and issue you license. The same if going the other way and need CVS after getting initial license in another state

Thanks i feel better now. i thought it wouldn't be a good idea to apply nclex in Calif since license would not be issued... more power!!
