Pls advice on first contarct
Hello, fellow vagabonds out there. A few days ago i posted some info about the first assignment that was being offered to me. I received the actual contract today.I have not signed anything though. Some parts of the contract troubles me.Your opinion will be greatly appreciated. Per contract: Regular rate $22/hour Minimum required hours: 40 hours weekly Benefit adjustment: $17.31 per hour will be deducted for each hour under the minimum required hours.???? Facility Guaranteed hours: 80 hours bi -weekly. The facility may cancel a maximum of 36 hours per contract before guaranteed hours will apply. So, if i don't make the required 40 hours per week, they will deduct $ 17.31 per hour for the hours that i'm short? From my actual pay?Say, i worked 3 8hour shifts mon-wed and the Hosp calls me off Thurs and Friday.Does that mean they will deduct 276.96 ( 16hours x $17.31) from my $528 earnings? (3 8hour shifts)? What if it's the Hospital that calls me off? Pls advice me. I wanted to check with you guys first before i call my recruiter.Thank you so much in advance.

Travelers out there pls help out this novice traveler wannabe.
It took my recruiter weeks to find me my first contract. I was the first one to be submitted and they offered it to me. I really don't know much about how this works, but I trust my recruiter. Although I've heard about the" bait and switch" tactic that they employ to unsuspecting travelers.I haven't signed anything yet. Your opinion will be greatly appreciated. 13 week contract @ Cedars Sinai Hepato/Biliary Medical/Surgical Clinic in LA. 40 hours per week, 8 hours/ day,5 days a week. 27/hour = Housing stipend $2000 or 24/hour= Housing stipend $2500 or 22/ hour= Housing stipend $3000 Travel allowance= $500 He initially offered me 2000 stipend with the 27/ hour rate. But I was unsure because it's west LA and i figured it must be really expensive over there. So he increased the tax free stipend but kept decreasing the rate for more take home pay? Does this spell trouble come tax filling season? And is this a fair deal? Thank you so much in advance.

New to travel-- Is it supposed to be this hard to get a position? PLEASE advise!
Hi, we have the same problem. I was asking my recruiter if it is normally this hard to get a med-surg assignment here in CA. I've been waiting for a while as well. So far, no interview yet. A lot of ED and L & D opened up here in CA but Med-surg seems to be thin.I feel like giving up...

i did so many errors today.*needing comfort guys
to jill your profile is set so you won't receive personal msg. thank you sooo much jill.yeah you got me.there had been much speculation on that post of mine.i wanted to post to clear myself up but thought what the heck?just let them be.thanks a lot you nobody understood me better.yeah, you were absolutely right i had my mind set on my mantra not to make a mistake for my preceptor will surely prolong my orientation with her. and i had been through hell. I had this other preceptor that would fill in for her when she's not around and i just love her! she would ask me if i needed help or if there is something she could do for me. If the day is not to busy we would sit down and she will ask me if i had questions or if there is anything that i wanted to know.or if the day was busy we would sometimes discuss things on our way to the garage.I just wana hug her whenever i see her.I also learned a lot when i was with her and that is without terror and perturbation.sigh...anyways i'm on my own now. Thanks for letting me vent and for your private msg.I am closing this particular chapter of my life now.I am so thankful of this site i get to meet great people.Thank you so much and God bless..

i did so many errors today.*needing comfort guys
Thanks for the correction. It's well appreciated.Actually i don't really use ' dilaudid' very often i just usually use hydromorphone coz that's what comes up in the pyxis:nuke: this was the first time i handled a pt with a dilaudid PCA.The two vials was suppose to be reserve i requested it early from the pharmacy because it usually takes them a long time to send up a new vial. But i know no amout of rationalization that can justify what i did. I know leaving narcotics in my pts room was a really huge mistake and boy will i remember this for the rest of my life.My manager told me that after this she was sure that i would be the safest person in giving meds because i sure will remember this.

i'm a new grad and i've been orienting for about 8 weeks now.I should hve been starting my night orientation 2 weeks ago but i guess i'm not doing well so my preceptor suggested to my manager that it would be best to keep me orienting on day shift bef i finally start nights. Today i guess i made the biggest error ever. I forgot 2 vials of diluded for the PCA in my pts room!Good thing the pt was honest and returned it to me. My preceptor saw this and she reported this to my manager. My manager then called me and told me that such an act is a valid ground for termination, but since i'm still orienting she will let it pass. Earlier that day i forgot 1 med tablet in my pts room.i was suppose to give it but then she was sleeping so i left it in the table so i can give it to her later ( bad move). And to top all that the pts iv line has air in it so i disconected it and tried flushing the bubbles out from tubbing but i forgot to close the antibiotic line so i almost emptied all of it! and it was only a 50 cc rocephin. There's just too many things goin on that i forget things. And my preceptor is the kind that well not let anything go.She reported me to my manager about the diluded earlier that day i don't know what she's gonna do about those other errors i made later that day. And to think she was in the room while i was doing this.I wonder why she did not say anything?I've had other preceptors before her but she seems to be the only one making such a big fuss out of this.I mean don't get me wrong i learn from her but she makes me feel so inadequate.I mean i have seen a lot of nurses who forgot to open antibiotic lines.*sigh*i guess i'll just expect for the worse.

work abroad w/out experience.. possible?
Thank you so much!!!My exact problem.I wasn't able to take IV therapy back in the phils. I'll be on my orientation next week. Fresh grad fr PI, I've never given IVP, IV injections etc. as this was not allowed by our school.thnks a lot!

about IV injections
Hi!I'm a new foreign grad about to start on my orientation next week.My concern is that i've never given any meds IV, IVP, start an IV line etc. Our school did not allow us as nursing students to do any of this as this route is very dangerous if any error is committed. I've mastered IM, SQ and skin test except IV injections. There has been a case bef about this when a student committed a med error and the pt died. The poor student was thrown out of school and the Instructor's license was revoked. We do have IV therapy class that we have to take after graduation for us to be certified but i wasn't able to take this class. Is it the same here?My mom who is also a nurse said that they will teach me to do this things during my preceptorship? Is it true?Man, i forgot to mention this to the nurse manager.

I passed! How did i do it?
Hi! I took my CA NCLEX RN last saturday 11/28 just found out that i passed! I had 201 questions a lot of which are priority, check all that apply and medications. I did my review with the matinreview.com and i can honestly say that she is superb! I'm not advertising her or anything, i'm just really gratefull to her that finally i'm an RN after after being a bum for so long. I took her review class and i passed. My mom took kaplan and failed the first time she was the one who urged me to take the review because she passed after taking her class. I passed the first time! If you are one of those who have taken the NCLEX 4,5 times already maybe the problem is not because you are inadequately equipt with nursing knowledge_far from it as i suppose you have read a lot of review books from different reviews_ but the strategy in answering the question, how to prioritize, how to attack every question and she can definately help you with this. She will drill and drill you on this things until you are able to immediately identify the right answers from a bunch of complex distractors. When i took my exam only about 10% of the questions were recall from the book and almost all of it needs critical thinking. But of course it wasn't all me.I did my part, i studied 4-8 hrs /day for 3 weeks.I answered around 1000 review questions and i prayed really hard!(nothing beats the power of prayers) When i find myself staring at an unfamiliar nsg procedure in front of me, or a question i really didn't know the answer i just pause for a while and utter a prayer in my mind.I know i did my part i was pretty confident God will do the rest for me.And this site is really helpful too. Thanks alot to all of you guys!!!
