Licensure requirements for CA for foreign grad

World Immigration

Published

I just graduated from a nursing school in the phils. I wasn't able to take the local board bec. my immigrant visa was about to expire.I was lucky that i was able to finish my course there. My question is do you really have to be a local board passer so you will be eligible to take the CA NCLEX here?I mean even as an immigrant? And for all those foreign grads how long did it take for your application for licensure to be processed?:uhoh3: just wondering....

hi again.ok i have my green card.what state do u prefer me to apply my nclex application.because they say california takes long for the papers to be process.

1)if i do passed california license how do i get endorse to guam?

2)if i do passed vermont license, how do i get endorse to califonia license?

trying to understand why you want to endorse from vermont to CA license? Is there a link for Guam nursing body. You will need to meet their requirements to endorse

Each state has their own requirements and timeframe, there are a few going to vermont and I suggest you do a search for that thread and look at timeline. Most states even when endorsing you have to meet criteria and if that means CGFNS exam then you have to do it. Most states requires CES (there are a couple of states that do their own assessment CA is one) by CGFNS and that can take a few months to process, all depeds on timely manner on receiving documents and that is before BON will look at your application. At a rough guess you are looking at anything from 5 months before you get OK to sit NCLEX

Which ever BON you choose I would suggest you check their website yourself to check on requirements as things are always changing even on this site information changes

:welcome:

Do you need to do CGFNS exam? If you do the only thing really is to study with the handbook that comes with it. For NCLEX I suggest you check out the NCLEX forum found by clicking the student tab. Suzanne offers a programme but you need to complete the first part on your own and follow the thread in the nclex forum.

Have you started your process with the BON for licensure?

Good luck on your move

so what state do you prefer me to keep an eye to.?

so what state do you prefer me to keep an eye to.?

We do not make a recommendation for which state that you should go thru for licensure. That is something that you must decide and there are many factors that go into play in that. Where exactly do you wish to work? That is something that you need to decide.

This thread is also specific for working in CA and going thru there for licensure. If another topic, please post it in the appropriate thread, ort start another.

this thread is specific for working in ca and going thru the ca brn for licensure.

if question is not related to that, please use appropriate thread. we try to keep to the topic that is the subject of this thread, otherwise posts get skipped.

if i apply for the cali license how long is da processing.of me having green card does da processing time makes it faster...

-same question goes to new mexico,is it faster there?im willing to work for those two state because both dont require cgfns or ces.can you help me to compare both states, that can help me decide to which of those state ill apply to.i dont mind working to either state...im just not sure because its the processing time is that im uncertain with to what state ill choose..

Having GC makes no difference to processing time.

CA appears to take anything from 2 months upwards to process your application, would suggest you have a read through the last few pages on this thread should give you an indication.

For NM you need to check with that thread for processing time.

Which ever you go with all depends on them receiving your documents in a timely manner.

Also be aware if you decide to go to anyother state and they require CES then you still have to get it before you can endorse you can endorse your license.

A lot of questions have already been answered and you will probably find answers to questions you haven't even thought of yet. I really would suggest having a good read in this forum and even try the search facilities

Licensure and immigration are completely two different things. If you graduated out of the US, then you are a foreign grad and will always have to meet the requirements of same. And they are longer for every state to complete. And this does not matter if you endorse ten years from now, you will still always need to follow the requirements for a foreign trained nurse.

Earliest time that you are going to see is three months for any state, and usually longer. You need to decide where you wish to work, not be who is the fastest.

There is already much here on the same topic, you are going to need to do your homework and do some research on it. Suggest that you start with the Primer at the top of this forum, there is much there that you need to be aware of.
