Let's See Some Positivity! :)

Published

I am a high school student who is very hopeful about a future in nursing. After joining this website I've received tons of great advice and points of view on my own threads, as well as reading posts from other people. However, I've recently seen a lot of negative posts about nursing. It is okay to vent and be frustrated with your job... but it's seeming more like people are miserable in their career path.

SO, now, here I am, looking for a little bit of inspiration. Who LOVES nursing? What makes your job so rewarding? Please share stories. I would love to see some optimism!

Here is some positivity for today..... I can't wait for my graduate program to begin in May. I am very much looking forward to becoming a FNP after bedside nursing:nurse:

People like to vent. As it is inappropriate to do it at work, many do it here.

We do apologize for the lack of glitter and heart filled flatus.

I am POSITIVE that I'm going to die someday. :p

Ok, in all seriousness I LOVE my job. There are moments I want to yell or bash my head into the wall, but overall it rocks. There are good jobs out there, but there are a lot of lousy ones, too. It's like any other industry.

Mom to 4, that is awesome! Continuing into graduate school is a great choice for many. I'm sure you'll get many new opportunities for doing so! Congratulations! :)

Lynx, I know that people vent. This would be a much better place to do it than while you're at work. People on here will understand better than coworkers or your boss. :) But I did see a post today that was specifically told people to avoid nursing entirely. :/ It kind of bummed me out because I am soooo looking forward to my future!

Perpetual Student, I'm glad you love your job. :) Of course some days are better than others, but it's good to here from someone who generally enjoys their work!

Thank you for sharing everybody!

Pep Rally Time! :yelclap:

I love my job because I'm a school nurse and work with young adults just like YOU!

Each day I have a smile on my face.

BUT I have had many disappointments in nursing and in my jobs prior to school nursing. If it wasn't for my job now I would have let my license expire and went on to find another career.

Safe to say most people like/"love" being in the nursing profession, BUT.....tell me of any job/job field that the employee's don't grip, complain, some times hate, ect... Yeah, didn't so.......

I wanted to be a nurse before I was 10 years old. And I've been a nurse for longer than 10 years. I still love it. Do I have the energy to tell you a story about why I love it? Well....no. But I do.

Don't let the venting get you down. I've HEARD (and have no idea of the source or absolute accuracy) that if a person has a positive customer service experience, they might tell one person. However, if a person has a negative customer service experience, they will tell 10 to 13 people. Apply that rule of thumb (however [in]accurate it may be) to the posts you read here.

As an example: today was regular - I had some stable patients, I discharged (sent home) one. Ho hum. What would I post about that? Maybe I could post: "HEY!!! I had a plain-vanilla day at work. Woo-hoo!" No, that would be silly. :)

i'm glad you're enjoying the posts you've got so far but your original post sounds almost reproachful. anyway, a couple of days ago we got a new member who made a similar point. normally i wouldn't do this but that thread had such a high number of very thoughtful replies i would hate to see it buried - there is some really great stuff to ponder in them. hope it is of some use to you.

i joined this site for positive inspiration
