wanting to hear from those that have left nursing....because I have.
Things like , reason you left, how long since the change, and do you think about returning to nursing.
I am now on permanent disability after being in nursing for 41 years as a staff nurse in a hospital. Many things have changed in those years. Less emphasis is placed on the patients and more on paperwork and cost. Less time is spent at the patient's bedside and more working on computers. I will miss the staff but not the stress.
well I am on my second, or third attempt at retirement, last time....i got to stay off some three months.....before being recruited back, quit my DON again few weeks ago, when I learned my husband was having quad bypass.....while he was in syrgery, I get recruited by another LTC....i may go back to work after i complete his cardiovascular rehab....bless his heart he is doing great.......Will i ever completly retire.....i do not know.....as long as my cognition, is appropriate.....
I am an Rn of 30+ years and have lost two positions because I am in therapy for kidney cancer. Its due to the cost and the days out of work etc. do you have any sugestions for me for at home work I can do at my own pace. I'd appreciated it.
how about prn home health
possibly some ins co case mgt as in workers comp etc ?
I miss nursing desperately. I left because I have Stage IV breast cancer and have reached the point where I can't work any more and I know I'll never be able to go back. Makes me cry if I think about it long enough.
Finding AN, reading posts and answering here and there helps me feel a continued connection, however tenuous, to the profession.

Maybe you could mentor some students here?
Update: as of yesterday, I have no patients to see in home health. I believe I will be officially 100% retired this Monday when I return my Android. Funny someone remembered my comment about Waffle House, since just this week I commented to my daughter that I thought it might be fun to work there for a short time. Not that I have always wanted to do that, but whenever I have eaten there, the employees are really great. There are a lot of different jobs I would like to try out before I go to the other side! I will keep an active license (pay annual fee and complete CEU's as required, since you never know when you might need extra $$$$). But it is so good to know that I am at the end of the line and it's been a long one too.

I couldn't afford to leave. Luckily, for now I have a wonderful job.
