Doesn't it just drive you insane when someone tells you that Mr. Smith's O2 STAT is 96%?

It's O2 SAT people! Sat, short for saturation. I even hear respiratory therapists saying this. I am sooooo tempted to say something next time, but I know it's just petty, so I needed to vent here. Thank you.

Specializes in IMCU.

LOL I think you will find that is not really the case. Glaz-go for both actually. Unless you are a Weedgie.

You don't hear people saying glas-gee coma scale. The lads at Glasgow University would die at the thought.

Funny though.

Specializes in ICU, telemetry, LTAC.
Yeah, it's "Laht" that bothers me.

Along with people ordering a "Wet" cappuccino. There's no such thing. A wet Cap IS a Latte.

(Former Barista)

I've never heard of a wet cappuccino. Don't all coffee drinks contain water? I sure as he!! would not drink a powder, so it must be wet already.

abbreviating it hippa instead of hipaa. drives me nuts.

Specializes in Neuro, Cardiology, ICU, Med/Surg.
I thought just my ex said this, but today at work I heard, "He dramastically changed," really? it's either a dramatic or drastic change not a dramastic. . .

I actually rather like this word... I may have to use it.... kind of reminds me of "fantabulous." :jester:

Specializes in Medical.

Interestingly, friends who worked in Edinburgh referred to a patient's GCS and were asked by the Scottish RN there "his what?" WHen they replied "Glasgow Coma Score" she said she'd never heard of it!

And yes, Glas-go not Glas-gee

Specializes in Oncology, Emergency Department.

I worked with a nurse that use to say "luv knocks" for lovenox....How the heck she got that is beyond me!

We need to take geographic location into consideration however. If you ever have a chance to travel the country, you should find the differences in annunciation and language articulation interesting. I know language differences exist in most other countries as well.

I was raised up north and know my annunciation of specific words is considered strange by the people I currently live and work around. My articulation of words such as carotid and trauma are considered strange by many people in the southwest.

What does your Latin slogan at the bottom of your page mean?

THIS is an arabic word. YOU will never hear it with Z. with all respect to the website. IT comes from SALAM not ZALAM!!!!!!!!!

dont get on my case, this was an example of WHY you are likely to hear it! and if they want the "s" sound, then spell with two esses......like Musslemans apple sauce.......the word muslin is pronounce with the "z" sound. so why would you think any one outside of the Muslem culture, in the USA, would pronounce the s? until we are educated otherwise.....frankly when i heard it pronounced your way, i thought it an affectation

Specializes in Med/Surg, Tele, Critical Care.

It drives me crazy when people say they had "lasix" on their eyes.
