Lead poisoning!

For real if one more teacher sends me a kid because they barely stuck themselves with a pencil and tells me they are gonna get lead poisoning if I dont get it out I am going to just get in my car and drive back home. I had one send me a kid who wouldnt let me do anything to it. Barely even marked on his had and so I sent back "wont let me touch it, a bandaid is not needed and wont stick to palm". Two minutes later she comes in with the emergency contact card wanting to call his parents because if he doesnt get that out he could get lead poisoning. Really people lets use our brains. These people are grown adults who I have been taught that pencil lead is graphite not actual lead. I mean I learned that in school, did they not??? And even worse they are teaching little minds of the future society! We are doomed I am afraid. It has felt like a Monday all week! 21 more days...21 more days!

Yeah, I'd send out an email to all staff members reviewing that pencils do not contain lead, and students cannot get lead poisoning after getting poked. Maybe throw in some links to info to back it up.

This is a losing battle. You may as well try to convince them that lice don't jump/fly, that kids don't get sick from going outside with wet hair, and that their stomach virus was not caused by their annual flu shot. Godspeed.

Somewhere in the middle of her freak out I said well when I was in 3rd grade I stabbed myself in the leg with my pencil and the tip broke off, you can actually still see it there. But I turned out okay, so this kid will be fine.

When I was in elementary school, I sat on the couch at home and had a pencil point penetrate and break off in my right thigh. I'm still alive, and that was more than 50 years ago. I was able to see the mark for many years afterward.

I can't believe people are stupid enough to think that pencils are still made with LEAD. Pencils wouldn't be allowed to be sold if they were made with real lead. Come on people.

I thought it was bad enough that I have to explain to high school kids that pencil "lead" is not actually lead; but the teachers?? Oh my! That's a whole new can of worms.

I always wondered why the Jeopardy! Teachers' Tournament seemed way easier than regular Jeopardy!. Lead poisoning from pencils? Better remove wood splinters quickly, too, before they grow into a whole tree sticking out of your hand.

Yeah! I learned that in school! 7th grade math class! When the girl sitting next to me stabbed me in the leg with her freshly sharpened pencil! ( I think she liked me!)

The point of that pencil is in my thigh to this very day, evidenced by a bluish dot under my skin.

Well, I guess I didn't really learn in 7th grade math class that one does not die from lead poisoning by getting a piece of pencil stuck under their skin.

When I noticed that I didn't die some years later from lead poisoning, I came to the conclusion that one can survive with a piece of pencil lead under their skin.
