I'm curious. I'm 22 but I'm struggling in anatomy and really don't know what else to do. I feel like maybe if I work a little bit and save up my money I can come back at another time and go back to school. I thought about becoming a cna?
I'm 25 in a 2nd degree BSN program and I'm on the younger end of the spectrum. Its weird because I barely have anything in common with a lot of my classmates. I'm not married, in a relationship, never had a real career except for school... Its odd but I'm dealing with it. Also not many people have much knowledge about how healthcare works since they had jobs and didn't have a lot of time to actually volunteer in a hospital. So while I'm talking my ear off about my experiences, some people just don't get it lol.
A friend of my grandmother's went to nursing school, then went on after that, and just became a nurse practitioner. I think she's about 55 or 60. I don't think its ever too late for education.
There are a lot of non-traditional students in our program (e.g. - older), and even the traditional students tend to be in at least their mid-twenties.
You're never too old to go into nursing. It's one lady in my anatomy class that's in her late 20s early 30s I believe and she seems to be doing good in the class and she's planning for a wedding which is cool. You just have to find that study method that works for you. I work part time as a CNA at the hospital down the street from my school and I was in a nursing program in high school for my lpn so anatomy isn't hard to me. Idk if your class goes in depth but mine doesn't all we need to know is where everything is and what it does. We learn a few diseases but that's it. Maybe you should go to tutoring if you're having trouble learning, or pair up with someone in the class you know is doing good, that's what my friend did with me because she isn't doing good in the class, or sit down with the professor and tell them that you don't get this class and can they help you. I'll be praying for you :) good luck.
Well I feel like the senior of the group. I had a career, retired, ( 20 years in law enforcement). I still had two young children at home, so I went back to school at 45. I am going to be 50 when I graduate. I anticipate being able to work at least 10 years full time and then wind down.. That is still a nice career. I personally love starting this career a little later, I have life experience that is invaluable to this field. I also now have the luxury of being able to focus on this career, my children are almost grown and I will have minimal interference with my ability to work. You are NEVER too old to start something you want to do!!!!!!!!
I'm a 31-year-old that graduated 8 years ago with a BA in Music. Now I am making the move into nursing starting in summer '13 (starting pre-reqs). My age doesn't bother me (as it pertains to starting over in school), and I wouldn't think anything of somebody older than me doing the same. If you feel the drive to start something new in life, you do it. That's all that can be said about it! :)
I graduate in December and will be 33. I am actually the top student in my class. I always wanted to go into nursing, but life got in the way. At 23, I got an excellent job in sales and was successful. About 1.5 years ago, when I changed companies and realized it is the job, not the company that I hated and had no satisfaction from, my husband and I sacrificed a lot for me to get out of work and into school. I LOVE it. I have never been this happy and looking forward to class and the days at the hospital. I think that is part of the reason I am doing so well too- I love it and it has never been a chore to study.
Personally, I don't ever think it is too late to accomplish what will make you happy.

I will be 29 in April and I graduate as an RN in May(2012). I am a second degree student and did work for about 5 years after graduating with my Sociology degree before I went for my RN....I don't think you are ever too old; however, I would recommend you do it now if you can!
