Ever wonder how/why some can even be admitted?

Maybe it's a small hosptial thing?

One of our Docs admitted an old guy with: Fear of back pain.

Does insurance even reimburse for that??

Rev Jessee Jackson is hospitalized for "muscle pain".

Who knows....maybe something serious but "sounds" bogus.

Specializes in Med/Surg, ER, L&D, ICU, OR, Educator.

We've seen alot of "weakness" lately.

Wonder if they'd admit me with "tired"?

actually, we do a lot of social admissions around christmas, easter and summervacation. It is official, because the county means it is better this way, as children and old people being left on the streets.

Take care, Renee

social admissions,

yes we see a lot of those also, around christmas, memorial day, the 4th etc. the family doesn't want to deal with the person, and go off on a hiatus! so why not pawn it off on the hospital/goverment (i.e. medicare).

makes me wonder?

can i get medicare to pay any of my monthly bills? prolly not...........just a thought.

me :)

So far as the vag discharge after sex. It might depend on gestation. Sex is a great way to induce labor. Is she due, or is she at risk of premature labor and has ruptured membranes? Or is it the usual post- sex discharge?

No, she's not due, no, she's not ruptured. Just the usual. Stupid patient, had sex, doesn't realize sperm glops back out after entering.

I'm a labor and delivery nurse, not an insurance coder.

more OB admits..

impending macrosomia (6lb baby)

hyperemesis (i would be too if i ate 2 burgers, fries and pizza for dinner daily)

threatened CPD (dr going on vacation for the weekend)

or the old standby......pt tired of being pregnant

Specializes in ER, PACU, OR.

tired of being pregnant? lmao!!! :chuckle

me :)

Specializes in obstetrics(high risk antepartum, L/D,etc.

Shay-- I also am a Labor and Delivery nurse, Certified in inpatient OB (since 1986) and fetal monitoring (since 1998) and work high risk obstetrics. I also do coding since some of our proceedures are difficult for the regular coders to figure out and our docs are busy with our patients, not that I'm not.:)

How about.... STATUS ASTHMATICUS...????

A FAVORITE diagnosis of a doc I knew who practices in a small community hospital. (HALF of his pts were admitted with that diagnosis.)

OMG! Were these people all admitted to ICU? Was he constantly in the unit? Were they all intubated? Wonder if he even understood the implications of that dx?  :uhoh3:

I have friends that were induced at 38-39 weeks because they were tired of being pregnant! I even told them how painful Pitocin was! Can't believe their docs did it!

I always wonder about celebrities that are in the hospital for "exhaustion" has anyone ever had an "exhaustion" dx?

Specializes in ER, PACU, OR.

dawn,

i don't know about that one? the exhausted people get the boot from the er. of course there could be times that would get me in the door...lmao! :chuckle

I'm not surprised at all by that. Inductions for ladies tired of being pregnant and for daddy's scheduling convenience, happens all the time.

Lame, yes. But not surprising.
