Is Duke a good place to get ICU exp?
Chapel Hill has a BSN program...very close to Duke. http://nursing.unc.edu/degree/bs.html

Dauphin Island, Alabama
That's funny....I remember hearing the same thing after hurricane Frederick (1979-ish). That one wiped out the bridge too.

Opinions, please: "Weeding Out"
That's disgusting! If someone is incompetent they should be fired even if your vacancy rate is 50%! :angryfire

Team nursing is causing many good nurses to leave any suggestions
Team nursing is useless....I just went thru the rounds of interviewing for a new job and I crossed off anyplace that uses it. If I were you, I'd start looking for another job pronto.

Should nurses return to wearing uniforms?
1. how long have you been a nurse? 7 years 2. in what field of nursing are you working (i.e. long term care, acute care, rehab, etc.)? icu 3. where geographically are you located? new york 4. what is your level of training? (i.e., adn, lpn, cna, bsn, masters or higher education level, cnp, crna, etc.)adn 5. do you think nurses should return to wearing a uniform? why or why not? ***to clarify-- by "uniform", i mean a move away from scrubs, to a uniform style that would be recognized across regions as belonging to "nursing". this could include the "all-white" uniform, or nursing caps. whatever it would be, the standard would be set by the nursing profession, for all professionals to follow***anything but all white! anything that resembles a maid's uniform would tick me off! 6. if you think nurses should return to a uniform, what type of uniform do you think nurses should wear? scrubs are perfect for what our jobs entail. maybe fatigues and black berets would be cool?

Survey: Should nurses from other countries be recruited to aid in the nursing shortag
Canadian nurses are "foreign"? :rotfl: I guess they are.... I've worked with many canucks and I've I've never considered them to be "foreign". That's so funny.....I do agree, though, that Canadian nurses are awesome! What's not so funny is an RN trying to orient a Filipino nurse and unable to comprehend 50% of what she says.....terrible.

Dauphin Island, Alabama
Dauphin Island? You lucky duck! It would be worth the hour drive to live there>>>except for the occassional hurricane it's a great place to live. One of my cousins worked at a marine lab there years ago. Mobile is a pretty town too. Love the big trees lining Government street. Good luck!

Why would they ask if I have kids????
I had a very different experience...... I was also asked if I had kids...I said "yes" and then received a stack of information for quality childcare in the area including the childcare center on campus. :)

Another Nurse Bites the Dust...
A few nights ago I watched an interview with an expert FBI profiler in regards to the Hacking case in Utah. Guess what? She was an ex RN!

If you could change NURSING what would you change?
They are already treated as if they are God...what more do they need?

If you could change NURSING what would you change?
I think nurses should totally separate from hospitals....create our own practice groups and contract our services out to hospitals. We can obtain health benefits, et al, through our "group". We could follow the model of legal firms or MD group practices and charge for services independently. The different "groups" will be owned and run by nurses only, of course....maybe even get tax breaks because of the nursing shortage, eh? ...just a thought.... Oh yeah....and change the title "nurse" to something else ...anyone? anyone?

job opportunities at duke hosp
I worked briefly at UNC hospitals in Chapel Hill in the past. I've heard some horror stories bantered about from Duke nurses and even heard the same thing from a nurse who worked there for years now living here in NY. I had a very positive experience in Chapel Hill....check them out. It's a very busy and sometimes stressful facility but I really enjoyed it there. The docs I dealt with were very professional and friendly. (I'm sutre there are bad apples just like anyplace else) They are very good with trauma/burn pts if that's what you are interested in. Even their CTICU is full of trauma pts. Their per diem rates are pretty good. Good luck!

Why is it MEN seem to get along better in this field than WOMEN??!!!
I dunno....I've witnessed some male nurses endure the same crap that female nurses do. It's crappy all over! :rotfl: Edited to add: To the peron who will never vote for a female presidential candidate...it must be boring to live life so closed minded.

ruptured appendix and peritonitis
I had peritonitis back in 1972....horribly ill...but made it home. There were a couple of days where everything was touch and go. It's very serious but the odds are your nephew will make it. Good luck!
