Kaplan college in San Diego RN program

Published

Hi, I will be starting the RN program with Kaplan as soon as we relocate. My husband's in the Military so the wait lists at other colleges turned me away from them.

Do any of you go to Kaplan? If so, how did it work out for the student loans and stuff , I am confused. It seems as if tuition is around 45000 for the couple years of the program. I am eligible for the pell grant and the military grant of 3000 per year. But would the loans be able to cover everything else since it's a vocational school more than a traditional college? Thanks!

Specializes in none that i can think of right now.

yeah it was official one day before orientation hehe

Specializes in M/S, Peds.

Congrats to all of you who got in! I will be starting my final semester next week and will graduate in January. I wish you all luck in the program!

Congrats everyone.. after all that i put myself through I decided to go to school at a community college instead. I really sat down and thought about it and decided that 50,000 is way too much for an associates degree. And I know we could probably pay it in a yr or 2 but thats if we dont have bills to pay at all. So usually that doesnt happen. And for 8 months i would have 10,000 of student loans and 1/2 would accumulate interest rate. I dont even want to think of the interest rate that would accumulate. So waiting a yr to get into a community college means no loans after school for me, which in term is the same thing to me. Not only that financial aid said I am not considered a full time student. Seriously?!??!? And i feel like 2 yrs of prereq. will not do me any good at this school because tuition stayed the same for this yr and financial aid didnt cover crap since i wasnt a full time student. It bums me out a little because i worked really hard for these classes. They said ssince i took prereq. i wont be a full time student for the next quarter also. I also wanted to give my spot to someone who wants this more. I am also only 21 so i have time to wait. The idea of becoming a nurse asap caught my attention but before you do anything think about it- kaplan can be good for you or not depending on your situation. To everyone good luck I am sure you guys will be a nurse way before me.

Kessy,

I admire and respect your decision to go to a community college then going to Kaplan. I can't believe that financial aid did not consider you as a full time student. I agree that you shouldn't spend all this money if you have other situations to handle like paying bills etc etc. Well GOOD LUCK with community college and hopefully you'll get in real soon

Thanks Fliptobenurse..glad you got in.. did they consider you a full time student/?? well good luck with the program

Just hit an 80% or higher on the TEAS on your first try...you'll have a good shot of getting in for January. GOOD LUCK!!! :)

I am going to the San Diego Kaplan college campus tomorrow evening to learn about the RN program. I first went to Everest (ontario/metro campus). They wouldnt even tell me about the program, they just said its full. The next session to sit and just learn about the program is in Feb. I have been really upset that no one can even explain anything about the program til next year!

I called Kaplan, found out its a bit more expensive but...classes start 3 times a year so at least I dont have to wait a year to attempt to get in. Kaplan is also in San Diego, which means Id have to move. This is something Im willing to commite to for two years in order to end up with a great career.

I need to know about student loans, mainly private ones because I am trying to see if I can get loans to pay for ALL my expenses for the two years that I am in the program. I dont know if this is possible but it would be the only way for me to do this and Im really hoping I can.

Thanks

Hey, Im also from the OC area...was wondering if you ended up going to Kaplan?

Hey, Im also from the OC area...was wondering if you ended up going to Kaplan?

well i was going to West Coast University in Anaheim didnt work out there so i applied to Kaplan in SD to see if i can get in. I was put in the wait list but before orientation my admission rep said i got in. so i had to find a place and just finished my 1st week at school. I like the school and teachers so far they seem really nice and they do strive the students to succeed. I still havent really adjusted moving from LA to SD quite well yet but SD is such a beautiful city that eventually i will get use to it hopefully haha. You should still apply for financial aid regardless if you can only do private loans you never know if you'll get the money. i got financial aid plus i still have to take a private loan for the remaining balances for this year so you should just try it out anyways.

Hi,

Im considering moving to SD to go to Kaplan for nursing school. Was wondering if you made the move? Id love any info you could share with me.

Thanks
