I figured now would be a good time to just say HI and un-lurk myself. Figured I would introduce myself and get to know you guys. My name is Allen Im 35, and I am now a nursing student (as of today). I am a little unordinary because I was a police officer for 11 years and now work in Columbia, SC at Palmetto-Richland as a Radiology Assistant (low pay, but at least I can study)...
My plan is to become LPN certified and then go right to work and right to getting my ADN as an RN. I opted for the money now route because, well, I need money now..LOL
Well, that's me in a nutshell...hope to be posting here a LOT more!

Welcome vfib!
I think you're gonna like it here at allnurses.com! We're a friendly bunch! We sometimes act like squabbling siblings, but the love never fades.
Come grow right along with us as we all learn more and more each day about the wonderful world of nursing and how rapidly it continues to change. Enjoy the other "off topics" as well. Come on in and get your feet wet! Glad to have a newcomer, especially a future nurse...male nurse at that! I love male nurses!

Hey Allen. You were with CPD?
I know several cops in Cola. And I know several folks at PRMH.
Welcome to the forum! You're at MTC?

Welcome to nursing and good luck! In your previous occupation you have already learned how to deal with attitudes, great skill to have.
I did my nursing the money now way and found it challenging and very satisfying in the end. The feeling of yes, I did that, all on my own!!
Marijke:cool:
Actually, I worked in Hartsville for 7 of those 10 years and Socitey Hill for 3 (I know, don't say it)...LOL
I am at PRMH in the radiology department as an assistant right now. Im going to ask to be transferred into one of the may nursing tech. positions that are open, hoping to gain a little knowledge about this business while I am in school.
AND...yes, I am at MTC...in the pre-nursing cert right now (basic gen ed courses)....hopefully will be finished with that this summer and start nursing 101 in the Fall.
Allen, check to see if you can qualify for a PCA position*. It pays more. You can do phlebotomy and other stuff a tech doesn't do. I think they cross train as secretaries now too.
* Patient Care Associate
Well...bummer. I just found out that I have to be in my current position for 6 months before I can do a transfer...gotta wait a few more months. *sigh*
