Nurses General Nursing

So, my hospital has recently decided to put everyone (housekeeper, culinary, nurses) in the same color of scrubs. They are also requiring us to have the hospital logo embroidered on the top. To compound this, we are required to order these scrubs from specific company who will embroider them. We were told there would be a choice in scrub manufacturers, but when the day came to be fitted, there was only one brand of scrubs offered.

Has anyone else experienced this? I know it seems like a minor issue, but the only style of pant was flared and a "junior" type fit. I am not a junior! So, it's made me pretty unhappy. I have to be comfortable in order to function well at work and I don't see myself ever being comfortable in these scrubs. I currently wear Koi and was quite happy with them.

How ridiculous. I would be upset too, especially if they don't even fit right! Ugh.

Some CEO probably thought it would be a good way for the hospital to give the "image" of having more skilled healthcare workers on staff than they actually do.

Have them altered to a custom fit by a professional seamstress. I always had custom alterations on my scrubs. It's less than 20 bucks and provides polished flair!

That may work for the tops, but not for the bottoms-not enough fabric...juniors have a lower rise, so can not be altered to fit a "misses" figure, also they will be too short in the leg, unless you are very short legged for your 5'10" frame.....i would suggest getting the mens version and having it altered to fit, and that might not work for the same reason. Juniors commonly only go to a 13 and if you are a 14 you would need a 15.....what are they doing for the truly overweight? or is this their way of getting rid of all the "less than physically perfect" staff? they are simply nuts!

Try to find the same color from a different company and switch the pants out. If the color is the same I doubt anyone will notice....

I would be irritated as well. How do you tell who is who? In my hospital food service and transport and house keeping do NOT wear scrubs. They do wear a professional uniform but not scrubs.

I'd be writing letters of protest to the media.

i'm in exactly the same boat. my hospital bought 40% of a scrub manufacturer and they're requiring us to buy from them. they'll pay for the first two pair. after that, i plan to buy my own scrubs from wherever i choose -- as long as they're the right color. (the color issue has me angry enough to consider quitting in and of itself, but i digress.) the logo issue isn't the restriction the hospital thinks it is. i've already found someone who can copy it onto the scrubs of my choosing. any of those kiosks in the mall where they sew logos on baseball caps can copy a logo.

ssshhhhh . . . don't tell anyone about my plan to rebel.

Think yourselves lucky you are not in the UK! You get the standard uniform of whichever Trust you work for issued on joining and that is it.

My uniform is a blue and white striped tunic of a heavy poly-cotton (FAR too hot in the summer on these old un air-conditioned wards) and horrible dark blue baggy clown pants with a sewn-in front seam.

I'd LOVE to wear scrubs of any description.

I'm not sure what the larger staff will do. I think they only go to 3X and I normally wear XL but had to get 2XL in the top meaning they run small. So there are a couple of staff who will have to be special ordered I guess? It was a little embarrassing to be telling my size in front of a room full of my coworkers, but I figured they already no I'm not an XS :o

Anyway, I suppose we are lucky in relation to those who are issued uniforms (blue and white stripes?!? yuck). I'm well paid so I will probably suck it up. And maybe try to sneak my own pants in. :)

Thanks everyone for your replies.
