OK, y'all...37 yrs experience with several certifications, blah blah blah. Just laid off due to "budget cuts." Don't quite know where to go from here. I know the market sucks right now.... :banghead: I also know I'm not alone. Thanks for "listening." Just needed to vent!

I'm so sorry to hear about you being laid off. Hang in there. I hope the time you have off can/will be productive for you in rest and whtever you needed it to be.

Oh ebear, I'm really sorry! That totally sucks. I second the suggestion of taking three days for feeling rotten and eating pizza (I also suggest a couple of rounds of your favorite ice cream or other indulgence dessert). After that, pick yourself up off the mat and start looking. With that much experience and knowledge, I'm betting you have some good connections.

It's an awful market, but there are still jobs out there. It took my husband five months to find a position after he was laid off last year (he's in print journalism, so his job market is easily as bad as the nursing market) and he sent out an average of 10 resumes each day he was laid off. Send them everywhere, don't wait for advertised positions, and network like crazy. This is now your full-time job!

I'm sending you all the good luck at my command. I've enjoyed your posts here, and I devoutly hope you find a position befitting your skills and abilities ASAP.

Did you work in a hospital?

I can empathize a little. Had the same type of thing happen due to closures, but that was years ago.

Got another job after a couple of months, never collected unemployment.

Go after and get whatever you can qualify for, as far as unemployment benefits, etc.

In a way, it can be freeing.

Good luck.

I'm so sorry, ebear. I know how it feels---spent five months of this year unemployed or underemployed myself---and there were some days that I got so depressed all I could do was sit in my La-Z-Boy, eating ice cream and wondering if my career was over.

But there's always SOMETHING out there, even for us over-50s; you might want to try some of the lesser-known jobsites such as Indeed.com and Jobdango, they seem to have a broader array of positions that you'd never think to look for. That was how I found my current (and hopefully it will be my last) place of employment, and I'm so happy there I still can't believe it's for real.

Best of luck to you, and please keep us posted on how your search is going.

I'm so sorry to hear you got laid off. I was once laid off from a museum that I worked for. I was there 5 years and felt very betrayed so I can imagine what you're experiencing. I just wanted to add to the list of jobsites and recommend craigslist. I found my current job there (even found my car lol). Best of luck and always know that God never allows anything to be removed from our lives without replacing it with something BETTER. hugs!

I'm so sorry to hear that! It's too bad that loyalty, experience and expertise don't mean anything anymore....

Take some time for yourself (while getting the unemployment comp you've earned), enjoy the holidays and then find a much better job.

Wishing you the very best,

DeLana

I was laid off earlier this year and it is very scary! Not knowing how long you can pay the mortgage! It is NOT an enjoyable "vacation from work" when you are depressed and crying every day wondering if you are going to lose your home, take your kid out of college, etc. I HATE when people are like "enjoy the time off"........um, no money to enjoy it with! (PS single mom here, one income....MINE!). And unemployment is a joke, you can't live on that, here in TN the MAXIMUM is around $900 a month!!!!!

I thought it'd be a cinch to find another job, Ive always applied for just ONE and got it. This time I sent resume after resume and got no calls. All in all I received only 2 responses, thank God one was the job I reallllllllly wanted.

Now every time I get a case of the Mondays I think back how horrible a time it was being laid off.......

I was layed off also in a company I loved and made great money. I was so confused on what to do. I realized I owned nothing I had bought! The banks and everyother company I had bought items from like my home, cell phone, internet, car, owned my items even though I was the one making the payments! I learned to cut back so much that now I am a penny pincher and refuse to give my money to things with contracts, I am driving my old car untill it drops, and re-decorating my home instead of buying a new one. The next time, I will not be at the mercy of everyone else. ahhh now that I have got that all out, just want to let you know that I hope you become stronger from it and turn to your friends and family for happy support. I am hoping this is just a bump in the road for you.

Wow so sorry to hear i hope you find something soon. Everything happens for a reason i know this doesn't help but where a door closes one opens. Good Luck.. These are my thoughts use them as you wish

wishing you only the best and a great early gift this holiday in the form of a wonderful job! l

Sorry to hear about your job loss, ebear. Hopefully you'll find something you love even more. Unemployment is not great. Get it anyhow. Got to love your positive attitude! :heartbeat Enjoy your break. :hgu::hrnsmlys::gingerbreadman::snowflake:

Try to sleep in. Ha!
