Diploma RN here, no intentions of going further. I'm 52 yo and work at a wonderful facility with amazing pay/benefits. I will be here until I die, and they don't care if I'm a BSN or not so the buck stops here.

I am a proud diploma grad. I went on later to complete a BSN in order to go to graduate school, and completed an MSN.

Had I stayed in the hospital, I would have never gone beyond diploma. Needed the BSN to be a school nurse. The additional education was a waste of time and money as far as making me a better nurse, but was worth it to get the job I wanted.

Specializes in Emergency.

bs, diploma, bsn, working on msn.

Here.. But I'm working on my BSN

Specializes in Med/Surg, Tele, Dialysis, Hospice.

I'm a diploma RN who graduated from a highly rated hospital-based nursing program 26 years ago. About fifteen years ago I went back to school to pursue my BSN but I didn't complete it because we were paying for private school for our kids and it was too much of a financial burden. Then came college for both of them, and now that we are done paying tuition for our kids, I am 51, six classes away from having my BSN, and surprisingly uninterested in completing it. I work in chronic dialysis where my job is secure without a BSN and I have no desire to work in any type of nursing again after this job. I am at the point now where I dream of retiring from nursing and working at some light side job completely unrelated to nursing, not digging myself deeper into a nursing career, so I couldn't justify spending the time and money to complete my BSN now.

Specializes in critical care, ER,ICU, CVSURG, CCU.

44year diploma RN here at 67 years, and still working, no I will not get abSN

of course I have only been charge nurse, head nurse, several stints (ER ) supvisor.... And a few tines DON in LTC...My experience, has not barred me from any opportunity...even in large teaching facilities, now if I were 20-30 years younger, it would be prudent to pursue....

best wishes...

Specializes in Emergency & Trauma/Adult ICU.

Proud 21st century diploma grad here. I have since completed my BSN.
