June 2008 NCLEX support group

Published

This thread is for any upcoming graduates taking NCLEX in June of 2008.

To start off with I would love to hear if anyone is taking Kaplan, or Drexel or other prep courses and why did you choose the one you did? I am looking into them and I am just not sure which one is best and why.

Thanks!

littlemiss1,

I'm so sorry you didn't hear the good news that you had so hoped for. My advice for you is this: take a while to cry it out. Just at home somewhere find a spot where you're comfortable and let yourself just lose it. Hitting pillows, yelling, sobbing. Make it really cathartic.

But after a while make yourself regain control. And say to yourself all those good things you know about you. You know that you made it this far- through nursing school and you probably have a lot of other accomplishments in your life and wonderful things about your personality. And this beast of an exam cannot take those things away. It can't take away the love or respect that your friends and family have for you. It can't change who you are. It can't change who you're going to be because you WILL pass, you will get over this hurdle and then it'll just be a bad memory!

Take a deep breath and think about all those things, think about the things about you that are still wonderful because of this test. Yes, it is a big exam and it can mess up employment plans and make people doubt themselves. But it is just an exam. Most of the power it has is the power we give it. By stressing out about it so endlessly and by letting it control our lives and emotions. So try your best to not think about it for a while. Enough so you can eat and sleep again because if you don't do that you can't make any progress. And then one day look over your weak areas, make a study plan, set a date and take this test again with success on your mind! You are so close!

Please don't give up though. Because you will be a great nurse, you probably already ARE a great nurse. Don't give up, take it again. Because "you only hit what you aim at and you miss all the shots you don't take."

Sorry for such a long post, hope it helps though. I'm currently waiting on my results...took NCLEX-RN yesterday and this has been the LONGEST 24 hours imaginable....argh.

Rushing to re sit the exam is not going to help. Have you looked at Suzanne's plan?

I hope I didn't imply that rushing to retake was a good idea. People should take it in their own time when they feel they're confident and ready. I just hope that littlemiss1 won't give up!!

In other news I found out this morning that I PASSED my NCLEX-RN with 75 Questions!!!!!!! hooray!!!! :dancgrp: Waiting for results was the worst though! I have a very healthy respect for those who have to wait for a letter. And a newfound respect for my dad who had to wait SIX MONTHS to get his bar exam results (that was a long time ago!)

Anyway :ancong!: to everyone in June support group who has passed. Also Congrats to those of you who took it regardless of result- we've come a LONG WAY!! And you will get over this hurdle. We're all here for you, we know what a bear the NCLEX can be :sasq:and we're all pulling for you!:icon_hug:

Good Luck to everyone! You can do this!

Littlemiss1...

I am sorry to hear that you didn't pass. It is the hardest thing to find out. I have been there. I am re-taking my exam this month. It took me almost a year to realize that failing just means, I ahve to keep going. I went to school for Nursing, and this is my passion. The NCLEX does not determine us as individuals and career professionals. I had to pick up the pieces, and when I was ready, I opened the books again.

Have you tried Suzanne's Plan? It is really effective. I have prepared for it, but you do have to set some time aside and not rush your next date. If it takes 2 months, you will have to just take that time off and review and study. Suzanne's plan is not a 2 week-plan. It does not consist of cramming. It involves time, planning, knowledge of the material and discipline, so it takes at least 45 days to complete.

We are here to support each other with pass or fail results. Just take some time out for yourself, set a date, at least 6-8 weeks ahead and start your review then. I have learned that setting your date will apply discipline on yourself to make sure you have a goal date. That way you can plan and organize the material you need to cover. Review the weak areas that you are in, and test yourself ever day with a review CD. Saunders comp review really helped me out. They seem to be the hardest questions, and the way the questions are structured, really gave me familiarity when I took the exam. To me, Saunders is the closest review material to NCLEX. I have reviewed Kaplan, Davi, Mosby and Hurst Review. Nothing came close to Saunders. However, don't take my word as golden, because everyone studies differently.

Good luck to you. We are here for you, and don't think you are on that boat sailing alone!:specs:
