Johns Hopkins Accelerated Summer Entry for BSN/MSN 2014

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi everyone! As the early and regular decision deadlines for the Hopkins accelerated programs approach, I thought I would start a new thread for this year. It seems like it's been a pretty useful source of support for prior applicants during this grueling process :)

I need 15 posts till private messaging is enabled - so this is #9 for me! :-) I hope everyone's week is going well - I think this may be a very long 3 weeks to wait!

No word yet for me. A friend who applied for the BSN/MSN FNP track got an email yesterday about scheduling an interview. Don't know if they are going by MSN specialty or if there is an method to the madness.

I got an e-mail yesterday requesting information so they could compile a financial aid package pending my acceptance. I hope this is foreshadowing!!

Marie- I can't believe we still have three weeks. This anticipation is killing me!

Just curious- What are everyone's ages/backgrounds (prior bachelor degree, area from, etc).

I'm 22 and I'm from Columbus. I have a business administration degree from a private university in the area :)

ps- Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

I received the financial aid email also, but nothing about interviews yet. Based on the timing last year, there doesn't appear to be a rhyme or reason to the timing of interviews.

Jessie, that's a great idea. Perhaps it will make the 3 weeks go by a little faster! I'm 32. My BS and MS are in criminal justice and criminology fields respectively. I am an attorney currently and I live in Philadelphia. Are you applying ABSN only or for a particular specialty?

Happy thanksgiving to you too! And happy hanukkah for anyone celebrating tonight.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! :-)

So I'm thinking December 13th - the Friday before the weekend is when we'll find out! :-) 11 days perhaps?!

Hi all!

Applied regular decision summer-entry ABSN only. I'm waiting on this and a few other schools as well. Good luck to those of you waiting on early decision - it sounds like it's coming up really soon!

Does anyone know roughly when we can expect to hear back about regular decisions?

Not sure for ABSN only, but according to posters from last year, early decision applicants were notified of acceptance on December 13th. Regular applicants did not get notified until the shake-out from early decisions (some people still pull out even though it is "binding" and just lose their deposit), but I am not sure of that date. So there are a few weeks left before you should start stressing. :)

Hi! I've been lurking around this site for a while now and decided it was time to make an account and join in on the conversation!

I applied ED for the fall-entry ABSN 2014 at Hopkins. I'm currently a senior at Dartmouth but I'm originally from California. My BA will be in psychology, and I haven't completed all my pre-reqs yet which makes me really nervous. If I don't get in then I won't be too surprised--but I'm still really hopeful! Just need to find some way to pay for it... I also have plans of going to grad school afterwards (at JHU or elsewhere) so this could all add up.

Specializes in Critical Care.

Hey gang! I am a current student at JHU in the Fall Accel program and I am set to graduate in a few short weeks (unbelievable!) I also work in the office of admissions as a student ambassador so I am happy to answer any questions you may have. I just want to assure you all the admissions team is working very hard on reading all of your files etc. I know sometimes it seems like things don't make sense but there is a method to the madness, especially when it comes to interviews for BS/MSN applicants. Hang in there!!!! Also feel free to email [email protected] this is an email address managed by myself and 3 other students so we can answer student life questions and calm any anxiety you may have :)

Got an email about scheduling an interview with the MSN/CNM program coordinator! They waited so long I had almost convinced myself that I was either a) getting in without an interview (unlikely since they interview everyone) or b) I didn't get in. My interview is on the 10th which seems so late considering that they send out decisions on the 15th. I read on a board from last year that the MSN/CNM track sometimes has multiple interviews because JHU partners with Shenandoah for the Midwifery part of the degree. My friend that already interviewed for the FNP program said that they ask around 10 questions. Fairly typical interview questions such as: What experiences have prepared you for nursing? Why JHU? Strengths? Weaknesses? Current issues in nursing or your specific program area? Differences between nurse and whatever your are pursuing so NP, CNM, MPH, Dr, PA, etc? Why you want an advanced degree?

Hopefully this information helps if any of you have an interview. I know I was grateful for the insight.
