I currently work full time at a company but I am going to need to switch jobs soon (very soon) as the company I work for is a Monday to Friday 8-4 kind of place. That means I would, at most, be able to work 16 hours a week. Our schedule for fall is up but...no time given for our Fundamentals lab so that 16 hours is a guess if the labs are only 4 hours each day.
Current NS or grads...what types of jobs were you able to hold while going through at least the first semester. I can get an internship at a local hospital after I complete my first semester (fundamentals at least) but what to do until then?
The only medical experience I have is medical records management so...help? LOL

Perhaps you could find a per diem/PRN position in HIM/medical records at a local hospital. I'm also starting school in the fall and am hoping to do this. You wouldn't be guaranteed 16 hours a week, but many hospitals are willing to honor school schedules for students with PRN positions.

During my first semester I was a Manager at a coffee shop. I worked about 36 hours a week. Prior to entering nursing school I put in 45+ hrs. I was fine. Second semester I worked 2-3 days a week, not more than 27 hours. I am now entering my third semester this fall and I have found a wonderful aide job at a hospital. The great thing is I am not required to work more than 4 days a month, if I choose.
Thanks guys! I've just come from speaking with my pharmacist and he's going to see if they can use me there. They've worked with nursing students before so that's a plus. I'll be hitting up more places in the next week to try to get something going :)

I am a prn STNA...I am thankful for scoring that job...at the minimum, I only have to work 2 days a month which I schedule to keep the job.
I am also a Nursing Asst in a hospital in the Ortho unit, where I work every other weekend.

Due to the restrictions in the program I was just accepted into through my hospital we are required to work 32-36 hours at an absolute minimum to stay in the program. I'm not going to lie, it's a little intimidating but I've heard since there is one lecture day and one clinical day a week that it's doable. Good luck to you!
Jennifer - did you have to have any certification for the Nursing Asst job?
Hi there!
No, I just had to have had completed my first semester of nursing school.
Not all hospitals in my area are like that...only some.

Thank you! I've spoken with one hospital locally and I can work there as a PCA or CNA after my first semester. Just got to get a 'filler' job until December
Your welcome :) !!!
Do you have a CNA or STNA license?
No, neither I've worked at a medical supply company in the past but only doing clerical/payroll work.
