Hi, Im just wondering if anyone has taken their nursing assistant program in JOB CORPS. If so, how is it like? I think its a free program, but what is the schedule? As well as the length of the program? And any other additional information I may need to know about the program. THANKS!

I, myself, don't really know a whole lot about job corps but a while back, I briefly considered joining. Upon mentioning the idea to my father, his head nearly spun like the girl in the Exorcist. I couldn't really get a clear reasoning but he evidently thinks its a bad idea...

Hi there! I'm a former instructor for Job corps in simpsonville, ky and its a GREAT and FREE program!!! You must be between the ages of 16-24 (or enrolled and ON center at least the day before you turn 25)It's mostly self paced study, you learn your skills and we take you to clinical then we set up and pay for your state certification exam. They give you free room and board, and you have opportunities to get your high school diploma or GED as well as help applying to colleges. Also job corps offers advance training in order to get your LPN (you apply just like you would to a traditional LPN program from whatever job corps you go to for your CNA classes) I have two students who were just accepted last month before i quit! And the LPN program is also FREE but you MUST attend a JC for your NA first! I hope that helps with info...just call an enrollment specialist and if you plan on doing LPn later through JC you really need to not get into any trouble at school, or in the dorms, and take their TABE tests and score around 600 on both reading and math! good luck!
schedule at our center is 830a-355p, most of students live on center in the dorms, it's run like a high school in a way with classes to take including acedemic classes if you do not score well on the entrance TABE test when you come in. Sometimes it seems a little juvenile but if you just keep your nose clean and get your work done you can be highly successful! our average student takes 3-6 mo to complete NA (however you have up to 2yrs to stay here and do more than one program) we have several kids that take Nurse aid as well as Medical Assiting here or Pharmacy Tech or Medical office specialist!

I am currently a student at the BEST Job Corps Center in the nation. BRJJC ranked #1! =] I achieved my certification as a Nurse's Aide in NC through the program and I am extremely thankful for it. The center that I attend, in Marion VA, is all medical! They offer CNA, CMA, MOS, and upon completion of the course, you have the option of enrolling in the LPN program! You really benefit from a program like this! I have class from 8a-3:05p. Job Corps is not for everyone, so be sure to do your research!

My coworker there attended and said it's sort of like a really strict boarding school. You have to do your chores, make you bed, look presentable, and behave very well or else you go to "court" and get some sort of punishment duties. I got the impression that it was sort of a militaristic environment, but could be just heresay.

Be sure to check out the other jobs Jobcorp has to offer besides CNA. CNA is low pay and the only way to advance is through Nursing School. Not saying it is bad, just saying to check around.
CNA may beat fast food, day labor, or the military, but there are other fields as well.
Pay a visit to the counselor and talk to them about pay, work conditions, and job availability of any trade before spending time or money.

I attended Hawaii Job Corps CNA Program. You need to score above 571 for the math portion of the TABE. 573+ for the reading side. Those numbers are equivalent to 9th grade reading and math. They teach you about Infection control, vital Signs, handwashing, bed making, opening and closing procedures, HIPAA, OSHA, ambulation and much much more. Also please don't get confused with CNA and CMA's their different in the amount of education/ training they receive.
If you plan on becoming a CNA don't come in thinking you won't wipe asses, you very well might.
Job Corps Advice
My advice if you go to Job Corps hit the ground running from day 1 and take the initiative. Show them you mean business!
Advice #2 Do not get involved with the DRAMA. You'll regret it I promise you!
Advice #3 Restraint: For example, teacher chooses story with an author named Chekoff. Students start associating Chekoff with jackoff. Immaturity takes over you and you start conjuring up nasty jokes. Why should you be concerned, well I'll tell why word spreads like a wild fire at Job Corps. Things you say can spiral out of control quickly.
Students in JC come from all walks of life rape, homelessness, jail, military discharge, etc. Which leads me to
Advice #4 Sensitivity: You never know what people's been through. Feel like starting jokes? Like "I'm gonna rape your momma!" That girl sitting next to you might have very well been raped. Which will not only destroy your reputation on campus, but very well could get you expelled.
Advice #5: Don't violate the no-tolerance policy on campus, thinking of testing the system? You'll find yourself on the streets! Job Corps doesn't give you second chances!!!
Advice #6 Common Area's: (residential only) When it's clean-up time( 10:00 PM) your roommates should not have to remind you of the time! It should be automatic the faster you get your share done, the faster you can go to sleep.
Advice #7 CPP2 or Career Preparation Period: At the end of this course you will simulate a group interview with your teachers, counselor and residential advisor. All at the same time and room. Go above and beyond what they expect of you. Instead of using your index cards, reheorifice your whole speech in front of the mirror. Some people will say your crazy I say your smart. Using index cards in a real-world interview is not practical nor professional. Dress in a white collar-shirt with a tie and black pants to impress!

Lunch breakfast dinner is all free they give free bus passes monthly you are allowed to use there gym and every recreational thing they have. They took the whole cna class on a trip to see disney on ice ( not that that has anything to do with cna class but its stll nice) everythng is free they also pay you every two weeks 45.00$ (great for gas money)
When you complete the program they help you look for a job a cts conseloer will actually drive you and 3 other students from place to place filling out apllications.
They also assist you in advanced training once you complete your cna at job corps you have the option of being transferred to an LVN or RN program in Job corps Thats what im doing I just finished my cna there and now they are sending me to the LVN program in LA, By the way there is no waiting list required for us students nor any pre-requis courses.
