Job Corps CNA Program

Published

Hi, Im just wondering if anyone has taken their nursing assistant program in JOB CORPS. If so, how is it like? I think its a free program, but what is the schedule? As well as the length of the program? And any other additional information I may need to know about the program. THANKS!

I had the same problem. My parents just had to take me off as a dependent on their taxes, and then I would only be accounted for my own income (which is $0 haha). They explain it all at a Job Corps orientation. Just call and set up an appointment and they will work with you.

Thank so much! I really appreciate it!

I'm in Job Corps right now at the Atlanta campus :) I've been here for about a week and its been great so far. The people are so nice and it's nothing like the horrible reviews I read on the internet. Maybe it's because I keep to myself so I stay away from the drama. The only problem is that the cna class is filled so I might do the culinary program until it opens.I'm thinking if I should stay to do their advanced training lpn program, or transfer to Macon State College for their RN program. I thought the RN program in Job Corps would be free, but its not. Only their LPN program is free :(
Hi! sorry im so late getting back to you... but glad that your enjoying the experience in sunny atlanta...i wish i could say the same here in up- state pennsylvania... but all is well.. sorry to hear that the CNA program was closed... we have the same problem here at Keystone...soo many students and not enough instructors..but anywho.. although the RN program is not free..you should def look into it.. or take the LPN..and then bridge over to RN through other programs. but def check to see if its accredited. where are you orginally from if you don't mind me asking?.. {( im get a little homesick from time to time,im from VA)}

Hey, it's ok! Actually, since I wrote that, the CNA classes opened up and they let me in as soon as I was done with my CPP phase :D I already have my high school diploma and some college experience so they let me in ASAP. So I'm in the CNA classes now and I love it! So you're at Keystone? That's great! They're trying to send me there when I'm done with the CNA classes, but I might attend Blue Ridge Job Corps in VA. I hear so many good things about Blue Ridge. I heard it's the #1 center out of all JC centers. Oh, and I'm born and raised in Atlanta. I just decided to go to a center that's closer to home for convenience so I can go home during weekends (I'm still a resident though because I live a bit far away). I'm sorry to hear you are home sick. You should look up Blue Ridge so then you'd be closer to home! :)

Also, can anyone tell me how the LPN JC program is? How hard is it? Is it very hands-on? Do you like it? I read an article once saying that JC only graduated about 50-60 students since it opened up in 2007. I forgot which center that article was written about, but those figures are alarming. I can't stop wondering if it's because the students didn't try hard enough or because the teachers are bad teachers or simply if not that many students applied. I'm now in the process of switching CNA teachers at my center because I hear so many students (and even teachers) say that my CNA teacher isn't the best, and I want the best of the best challenging education that JC can offer.

Hey..hope you had a good weekend... and yes! im here at Keystone...and yes the article was most likely about keystone... i hear the LPN program is pretty tough. alot of the girls here say its all work no play! from what i hear it's a little bit of everything with it. They do eject you out of the program if you fail to pass a certain module such as pharmacology or med-surg (etc) and you have to go home... and yes i was going to go to the JC in Virginia, but my admission's counsler said it was full (the lpn program atleast) its a wonderful program..its all women and its all medical and they have a high pass rate. im hopefully will start LPN is October. i was already a CNA when i came here.. so they said i have to take medical assisting 1st then LPN in october. i hope u do decide to come here.. its a big campus we have like 620 students. so its pretty crazy.but its good =))

620? Wow! Much bigger than the Atl campus. Well looks like I'll most likely be going to Keystone too :) can't wait!

Does anybody know if the Job corps in Miami Gardens has LPN or CNA?

I did the job corps CENA program in 1999 in Cleveland and it is a great program! You will get training, it is accredited and they cover the cost of training and your state certification test. I was 17 when I went to job corps and unsure in what I wanted to do. I wandered away from healthcare and now I am working my way into a nursing program. It is definitely a great stepping-stone to go further in the healthcare field!

Is the Job Corps LPN program rightfully accredited? And this question can be directed at anyone. I was thinking about doing the LPN program, but I'm scared that the credits wouldn't successfully transfer if I decided to transfer into an RN program.

Well I have a question for anyone who may know. I recently scheduled an orientation to discuss with job corps what career choice I can choose. I have to admit that I have my heart set on becoming an LPN. I have yet to discuss with my advisor that in 2008 I got a certificate of completion for a Certified Nursing Assistant's course. However, I never got my state license-I didn't have the money to do so at the time and so it lapsed. What I am wondering is, being that I have had training and have a certificate, does that mean I can qualify for the Job Corps LPN program?? If any of you could please let me know, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

First of all I think this Job Corps thing is awesome and I wish I had known about it when I was a rebellious teenager!

Kay- Call them and ask! The worst that could happen is they say no and you get to do the CNA training again which might be a good thing since it's been a while for you.
